Betrayals of the Heart

Charlie Weasley bolted awake to a frantic pounding on his door. Bleary eyed, he stumbled out of bed and flung the door open. Standing before him, soaked with rain was a weary Severus Snape. Charlie gasped at the condition his lover was in and he pulled the man into the warm hut.

"Severus…" he started but was interrupted.

"Charlie, please," Severus said.

"Please what," asked Charlie, "What Severus?"

"Kill me." The two words were spoken so quietly Charlie had barely heard them.

"What?" demanded Charlie.

"I want you to kill me."

"Severus, I can't, I won't."

"If you knew what I did then you would."

"What happened, Severus?" Charlie asked dreading the answer, "What did you do?"

"If you loved me, Charlie, then you would kill me, now."

"I do love you, Severus, and you know that's why I can't kill you," pleaded the redhead, "now tell me what happened."

"I betrayed the order," said Snape, with unshed tears in his eyes. He couldn't meet Charlie's eyes. Charlie knew everything horrible that Severus had ever done, and more often than not Severus wondered how the redhead could stand him.

"How?" Charlie's tone was serious.

"I killed Albus."

The words came so softly that Charlie was certain that he misheard his lover. He looked at the worn wizard standing before him and he felt his heart wrench.

"Why?"

"I had to," was all that Severus said, "please Charlie; kill me."

"I can't, Severus, I can't fucking kill you."

"Why not?" the older Wizard pleaded.

"Because you bastard, I love you, I have always loved you and I always will," shouted Charlie at Snape. Severus shrunk back at the sound of the yelling.

"Please."

"I would, Severus," Charlie told him, "But I can't do it, I can't kill you, and please don't ask this of me."

"If you won't kill me, then keep this." Severus shoved a small chest into his lover's hands.

"What is this?" Charlie asked staring at the box in his hand.

"My memories, my life."

Severus pulled the younger man to him in a tight embrace. Franticly, he kissed the other man.

"I will always love you," said Severus before vanishing.

"I love you too," whispered Charlie into the dark night. Ignoring the storm outside he ran to see where his lover had disappeared. After a bleak fifteen minutes of standing in the storm he returned to his small home. A home with so many memories of the man that had just asked to die.

Charlie opened the small chest, and he pulled out a small vial. There was a note attached. Charlie poured the memories into the pensive that Severus had given him two years ago.

He entered the swirling memories, found himself at a meeting with Voldemort. Shaking, he entered the next memory and watched his lover enter an unbreakable vow with Narcissa Malfoy. He leapt through memories of the school year, order, and death eater meetings. Finally they climaxed when Severus was forced to kill Albus and the fight with Harry.

Charlie was shaking as he left the pensive. He curled under his blanket instinctively knowing he would not see Severus again. But he did see Severus once again.

At the final battle, Charlie witnessed the death of the man that he loved. Fighting to far away to stop as the former spy intercepted a killing curse meant for the young hero. Charlie screamed and ran over to where Severus lay. Gathering his lover close, he let his tears fall, as Severus died in his arms, no longer caring if Harry defeated the Dark Lord.
