There were many highs and lows in Kyo's life.

A low, for example, would be when his mother committed suicide

An example of a high would be when Kazuma adopted him.

Meeting Tohru was a high, as well, not to mention becoming her friend.

But, when Kazuma had forced his true form to show, it had been a very low point, as he believed she would never accept him.

Of course, when he found she did accept him and still cared about him, it had been a wonderful high point.

And so the highs and lows came and went. He and Tohru dated (a high), but broke up after a few months (a low), only to get back together again (a definite high). He finished high school with very good grades (a high), but almost wasn't able to participate in the graduation ceremony because of a fight he'd had with Haru when his cousin had gone "black" again (this, Kyo wasn't sure if it was a high or a low. He hadn't particularly wanted to sit through an hour or so of sappy speeches, but he also felt as though he shouldn't miss out on it).

Kyo had been sure, though, of the highest point of his life; when he married Tohru. Nothing, it seemed, could make him feel any more…amazing.

But, he'd been wrong.

Five years had passed since he and Tohru had married. He was working with Kazuma at the dojo, and Tohru was taking an extended amount of time off of work. A little over a year ago, she'd given birth to their daughter, Keiko, and she was still staying home to take care of her (one of the highs in Kyo's life was when he had, carefully and almost timidly held her for the very first time, and she hadn't transformed into any animal. He'd come close to crying at that point, from sheer happiness). It seemed, though, that she was developing at a slower rate than other babies. Most would have said their first words by now, but Keiko had remained silent. She rarely cried, and almost never fussed.

Not that Tohru hadn't tried to get her to talk. She'd done the usual; referring to herself as "mama" and Kyo as "papa," as well as pointing as to objects and giving them names. But, it appeared that Keiko was just a very quiet baby.

Kyo had returned home one day, and had done what he usually did; slipped off his shoes, went to the kitchen where Tohru would be cooking dinner to give her a kiss hello, and then would go to the playpen where Keiko would be playing, or sometimes sleeping.

Today, she was awake, and had smiled when Kyo walked into the room.

"Papa!"

Kyo froze in his tracks, unsure if he'd heard just what he thought he had. And then, she said it again: "Papa!"

Her arms were stretched out towards him, and he obliged without a second thought, scooping her up into his arms. He, for once, couldn't speak; he was too surprised, too happy, too…emotional.

He'd never known just how much you could love someone until this point.

This, hearing his daughter call him "papa" for the first time, was the highest point in his life.

Just a quick little thing I wrote; I was inspired by...something I read in the Ouran fandom. I can't remember exactly, though.
