"Hey Dad! What's this?" Kurt asks as he holds up a faded black tuxedo jacket, obviously years old.
"That's my wedding tux. I don't think it'll fit kiddo! I wasn't in as good of shape as you are at that age." Burt chuckles at the sight of his grown son holding up the old jacket. Kurt sets down carefully. They had come up to the attic to find something old that he could use for his upcoming wedding. He was always interested in the old wedding saying:
Something old, something new
Something borrowed, something blue.
He had his new, and his blue, and figured he could borrow something old from his dad and kill two birds with one stone. He searched through the same trunk for a little longer, when he came across a white silky dress.
"So, was this mom's wedding dress?" He asks, stars in his eyes and he stands up to see the entire thing. It was definitely vintage, but in a good way. No atrocious eighties shoulder pads, just a simple sleeveless dress.
"Yes. Gosh, she looked amazing in that dress. Like an angel." Burt speaks fondly of his late wife with slight tears in his eyes.
"I wish I could borrow this. I'd feel like she was there with me." Kurt carefully replaces the dress in the old trunk, wiping the few tears from his face.
"Wait! If that's our old wedding trunkā¦" Burt rushes over to look through the trunk next to a confused Kurt.
"Dad, what are you looking for?" Kurt asks as Burt lets out a cry of accomplishment.
"Here they are!" Burt holds out a small velvet box. Kurt takes it and opens it. Two cufflinks in the shape of blackbirds sit carefully in the box.
"Your mom bought these for me to wear at our wedding. She'd love for you to wear them at yours. You were her little bird." Burt explains.
Kurt sits in a slightly stunned silence, tears again trying to fill his eyes. He traces the cufflinks before closing the box and embracing his father in a tight hug.
"I'd love to wear them dad, they're perfect. I love you."
"I love you too kiddo."
