This is a special fanfiction I did for Doctor Who Thanksgiving! Now of course, I know you Brits don't celebrate it, but I just wanted to write one!

Disclaimer: I do not own Doctor Who.

"Rose, did you know today is Thanksgiving in America?" the Doctor asked Rose one fine day in the TARDIS.

"Thanksgiving—yeah. Isn't that where they eat a lot of food and celebrate pilgrims and Injuns? And don't they say what they're thankful for?" Rose said, information running through her head.

"Very good, Miss Tyler," the Doctor teased.

Rose made a face. "You're not the only one who can babble, Time Boy," she replied, giggling. "So are we going to visit the pilgrims and Indians at the first Thanksgiving?"

"You tell me," the Doctor said, cocking an eyebrow. Rose giggled, he pressed the lever, and the TARDIS began shaking wildly back and forth.

"D'ya want me to change?" she asked the Doctor.

"You know where the closet is," the Doctor told her. "Remember! Look like pilgrims!"

Rose stopped dead where she was. "Wait, why don't you have to change?"

"I'm the Doctor," he told her. "I'm a man of medicine."

"And?" the Doctor then gave her a look of disapproval. Rose sighed and went to go get changed.

* * * *

The snow crunched under her penny loafers (the only old type of shoes she could find) and snuggled her face into the Doctor's shoulder.

"There they are," he sighed. Rose looked a hundred feet away to see a blur of snow and forms that looked like figures.

"Are they eating turkey?" Rose asked him.

"No," the Doctor laughed. "Corn, lobster, crab fish…"

Rose gave him a look of disbelief. "So where did that whole 'turkey thing' come from?"

The Doctor shrugged his shoulders. "The Americans are very strange." After saying hello to the Indians and the pilgrims (and stealing some lobster and wild bird), the Doctor and Rose made way to the TARDIS again to get out of the snow and sat in the kitchen quietly eating their meal.

"Mmm… this is good," Rose finally said after moments of silence.

The Doctor nodded his head. "Yup! They sure knew how to cook!"

More silence.

"So Rose. What are you thankful for?" the Doctor asked her, eyes shining brightly.

"I'm thankful for…" she chewed for a moment then continued. "I'm thankful for this food. For my mum and Mickey. For… for the TARDIS for keepin' us safe… I'm thankful for my dad, and I'm thankful for Sarah Jane for saving our butts back there."

The Doctor waited for more, but Rose didn't say anything more. "Anything else?" he pressed. Was Rose not grateful for him? Did he say something wrong? Did he take her to the wrong place? Did she think this whole time travel thing was "lame" and "foolish"? Did—

"What are you thankful for, Doctor?" Rose coyly asked.

"I'm thankful for…" several words ran through his brain but the Doctor chose one simple sentence. "I'm thankful for you."

Silence was thick like a haze that none could cut. Finally, Rose said, "Doctor. I'm not just thankful for you, and the travelin' and the TARDIS… I'm thankful for you for who you are."

The Doctor smiled at her. "Me too," he teased. Rose let out a laugh. "And d'ya know what?" he asked. "Do you know what I'm really thankful for?"

"Wha'?"

"I'm thankful for you and me being able to have these types of conversations while we eat dead fish," the Doctor said. Rose smiled.

"I wish it could last forever," Rose admitted.

The Doctor then got a faraway misty look in his eyes. "Yeah," he said. "Me too."

Bittersweet ending!!! :) Please review, and Happy Thanksgiving!
