Author Note: First of all, Happy New Year everyone!

Internet is still out on my laptop, but my friend gave me this song yesterday and I felt inspired. It's not what I hoped to post today, but hopefully it'll do.

Broken but Still Breathing

No damage you can do now

I'm immune to you now

You can't break what broke apart

Sitting naked in a chair bound and blindfolded, she looked helpless. The only thing she could feel was the sting of the bruises and burns throughout her body, the only smell was the dried blood that clung to her cheek.

They wanted her to break, but she wasn't going to – you can't break what's already been broken.

They had beaten her to a pulp, driven electrical shocks through her body, but the Suicide Squad wouldn't be responsible for breaking Chloe Sullivan. No, that moment took place on a dark, muddy road.

The sound heard as she walked past him for the last time was more than just their shoulders bumping. Her heart broke in that moment, but she refused to let it show. Chloe had made her decision, and she refused let her captors see her weak.

More importantly, she had to be strong for her team; she had to be strong for him. Checkmate had taken her once before, but this time it was different. Everything was on her own terms, and she would play them even it would lead to her last breath.

After all, they had messed with the wrong sidekick when Oliver went off-grid. She searched high and low, but when there was no other option, she was more than willing to take his place to save his life.

Chloe understood there was no happy ending waiting on the other side, that they were brought together only to be torn apart. Now she understood the pain Carter felt.

She knew that Oliver wouldn't agree with her decision, and she didn't blame him, but there was no way she could let him suffer once she knew where he was. Writing the email was one the hardest things that she had to do, and it almost killed her knowing the last time he would hear that she loved him was through a keyboard.

Chloe could hear the door open and the sound of the lighter as her captor was likely smoking a cigarette across the room.

The moment after a smirk came across her lips, she heard him ask, "Why are you so happy?"

Chloe laughed a single time before breaking the cyanide pill embedded in her molar. She wasn't sure if the antidote would work, but this was the chance she had to take. She wasn't going to break, but she wasn't going to be a liability either.

As her heartbeat began to slow down, she thought of all the time her and Oliver had spent together... the good times, no matter how limited they were.

Ignoring the reality of her captor shaking her body and yelling in her ear, she envisioned his smiling face, the one that she longed to see one last time, but knew she never could.

'I'm sorry Oliver' was her last thought as she felt her blood run cold.

You can't hurt me anymore
