Phoenix Lore

By Ray Porter

Newton Artemis Fido Scamander (A.K.A. Newt Scamander) is consider the foremost specialist in magizoology. Is written book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is use as a reference manual in most of the European school of magic. His written word made sacrosanct after careful ministry review.

Not that the man was not thorough with is research, but after the ministry censure and fifty revision of the book many details have been lost or simply deleted from the original manuscript. Like most of the magical people, Mr. Scamander was not the most valiant man alive, and to be perfectly frank, the only time he read his own book was when he was doing a revision. He would write a chapter on a particular beast send it to revision and forget about it. So in the many revision he's done he might have right a mistake many time but was censure every time. Let's let the man rest in peace and give him the benefit of the doubt.

In Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the phoenix gains an XXXX rating not because it is aggressive, but because very few wizards have ever succeeded in domesticating it. Reading between the lines, you can understand that even the man wasn't able to study them as much as he would have like.

After decade of search and a little a help from an unnamed source within the department of mystery, we finally found a few note from Scamander own hand. Most of the note were barely readable but the section on the phoenix was the most truncated. From the dozen of pages of notes, only two remain in the final book. A mystery for all of us, in the few pieces we could read, there were many variant of the phoenix

White, Blue, Orange, Gray, Black and others, beside the many variant of the creature, Scamander wrote this:

"…Thus rise the phoenix from its aches, no one can live that long without gaining some form of intelligence. During my observation, I came to the conclusion that phoenix are not a creature but a being of great intelligence attune to magic like no other… Thus rise the phoenix bowing to no one, except the old one…"

Who is this old one?

What about Fawkes the Hogwart's headmaster phoenix, is he as 'domesticated' as surmised?

If Phoenix are so smart, why hide it?

What did the ministry gain in hiding those notes?

We'll continue our investigation and keep you inform.
