Yuki hates Kyo. Kyo hates Yuki. It was fated to happen, it's the only logical thing. It's really so illogical, though. Yuki's mind tells him it's really just a petty grudge and all he really needs to do is get to know Kyo in order to befriend him. It's not so easy for the cat, however. Kyo would attempt to tear Yuki to pieces.
Yuki knows this even as his soft spoken voice murmurs, "How are you, Kyo?"
He tries and tries and tries, but the cat will have none of it. He's very curious, really, and slightly perturbed.
And finally, finally, Kyo opens up. "Because it makes me feel calmer."
After months of trying to get Kyo to open up, he finally did, and now Yuki knows more than he'd ever cared to know back then. But he's glad he knows now, he feels warm and slightly shaky whenever Kyo talks to him.
Eventually, he starts telling Kyo things too.
"I hate you, rat." Kyo whispers. Yuki's heart aches because he knows it's a lie and Kyo can't accept it. He strokes Kyo's face.
"I know. I love you."
"Why the fuck do you want me?" Kyo yells, pulling at his hair.
"Because you're everything I'm not." Yuki responds calmly.
"Thanks a fucking lot." Kyo's voice has lowered quite noticeably. He walks out. The door slams so hard that it falls of it's hinges on the ground.
Yuki's heart hurts. He doesn't ponder it.
Crash. Their lips touch and burn and fight and bleed together in the darkness. "I hate you."
"No, you don't." Yuki grunts.
"Stay." Yuki whispers softly.
"No." Kyo says, but he winds his arm around Yuki's frame anyway.
In his dream, Yuki is caged and so, so far away and Kyo is howling, howling, howling.
Kyo slams his lips against Yuki's, and his mouth is bitter and angry. It's dark out and Akito's not far and Yuki bites Kyo's tongue so hard he bleeds.
"Fuck. I love you." Tears are pooling in Kyo's eyelids and douse his tanned cheeks and Yuki wants to cry too.
So he does.
Kyo is gone. Yuki doesn't eat, doesn't do well in school. He can't. He doesn't sleep, yet spends too much time sleeping. His only comfort is Kyo's damned black shirt that still smells of him.
Yuki walks in one day to see Tohru embracing Kyo. Yuki has things to do and he should be angry, angry, angry with Kyo.
But.
But Kyo is back and Yuki sees him, and he wants to run up and shove him to the ground and kiss him and punch him. Instead, he stands there with a clandestine smile and a hand on Tohru's shoulder.
"You won't ever get too far from me, will you?" he says later. Kyo glares and Yuki grins because he's neverfelt so close to anything.
"I guess not." Kyo growls without malice, snaking his arm around Yuki.
"Good." Yuki brings his lips to Kyo's.
This time when they kiss, there's no blood or anger or bitterness.
