Another Try
Nathan stood at the window of the darkened office lobby and looked out at the sleeping city. He always came here when insomnia and memories got the better of him. It was still early, so no one else was there. Just him and his thoughts.
This time it was Maggie that was keeping him awake and how he had been unable to share his grief with her. How even when he was there with her, she felt alone. And how he could never let her see him cry, even when it was too late and she was leaving. But by then he was too far gone to stop her.
He knew all to well the reasons he was alone. And he knew as well that, if he was given another try at love, he would hold on and not let go.
The sound of a key in the lock, followed by the light coming on brought him out of his thoughts. He turned around to see who it was.
"Oh, sorry," said Sophie, "I didn't know anyone was here"
"Couldn't sleep" replied Nathan.
"Me either" said Sophie.
She went and stood next to him at the window, and they watched the sun rise. He slipped his arm around her waist.
And he didn't let go.
