Waterloo Road
Tom's Daughter
The first thing I had to do in the morning was go to the Deputy Heads' office and talk to one of them. I knocked and heard a male voice with a Northern (but not as Northern as mine!) accent call "Come in!" Nervously, I walked in. "H-Hello," I said, peeking my head around the door. The guy behind the desk grinned "You must be the new girl Imogen-" he checked his papers "-Clarkson. I'm Tom Clarkson, but of course you'll call me Mr Clarkson" He grinned. "And I'm one of the deputy heads here. The other is Mrs Diamond. I see you have good grades from your old school here. It's Height of the Hills High School, right? Yes, you were doing well. Anyway here's your timetable and class planner. Your teachers will give you books in your respective classes. Now, Morning Registration is about to begin. Hurry along now!" and he waved me out. I seemed to remember something my mum said… Tom Clarkson… polite, funny Northern man. My dad. OMG. That man was… IS my dad! I ran back in. "Excuse me Mr Clarkson," he looked up "This will sound really weird, but were you in California in April 1997?" He gave a short nod. "How did you know?" he asked. He looked genuinely confused. Poor guy, didn't even know he had a daughter. "Well..." I said awkwardly, "You met a red haired green eyed wildchild while you were over there, yes? And, well, she's my mum. And I was born January '98," I stopped. He'd got the message. "But wait… I can't be your… how can I be your… I'm your dad?" He asked. I nodded. Then a boy walked in. Tom looked over at him. "Josh, meet Imogen. She's my daughter. Your sister," The boy looked over. He was interested and confused looking "Well, guess you have a habit of having kids and leaving them dad. This one's just younger, and Scottish," and then he walked out. My half brother walked out and left me and Tom… dad… together.
