One can only have so much luck. Peter knew that better than most.
And he knew he was pretty well out of luck when he walked in on his Aunt May showing his teammates old family videos.
He had been busy webslinging around town so he had been unable to stop her from showing his friends.
"Oh wow!"
"Man I'm impressed," Luke chuckled. Sam couldn't breath, he was laughing too hard. Peter was almost afraid to walk in and see what they were watching when he saw Danny struggling not to chuckle.
"-chldorine, carbon, cobalt, copper, tungsten, tin and sodium.
These are the only ones of which the news has come to Harvard,
And there may be many others but they haven't been discovered."
"Aunt May!" Peter let out an involuntary squeak getting everyone's attention.
"Well if it isn't the man of the hour?" Ava jested with a smirk on her face. Peter's face paled and turned towards the television, not entirely sure what to expect. His face erupted with a bright red. There on the screen was him, about six years old. Dressed in a white lab coat and with his thick glasses and a pair of goggles appearing to slide off his forehead. He groaned when the little him on the screen giggled, revealing his two missing front teeth at the time.
"Oh man Peter, I knew you were a nerd-" Sam coughed as he struggled to breath, "but this is priceless!"
Peter hid his face in his hands and groaned once more.
"Oh come on Peter, you were adorable back then."
"Aunt May, how could you show them that?"
"Easily."
The grin said far more than her cheeky response, even when the team burst into laughter.
"I can't believe you still have that video," Peter muttered, then to everyone's surprise, he joined them, sitting in front of his Aunt May on the floor.
"Oh Richard. He looks just like you."
"You think?"
The laughter seemed to stop as the team watched the screen. An older man none of them had seen before had entered the shot. He had splotchy green paint and crudely placed "stitches". He wore a black shirt and had what looked like bolts coming out of his neck. A Frankenstien's monster.
"A boy and his monster," The woman's voice laughed.
"Mmhm!" The little Peter said, "I made a monster! And he does what I say!"
"And what do you say?"
"We get candy!"
The team all glanced down at Peter. Peter just watched the screen with misty eyes and a sad smile.
"I remember that Halloween. Dad got lost and we had to take a cab home. It took an hour to admit he was lost and bought me a lot of candy from the store so I wouldn't tell her we had gotten lost. I think she always knew. Dad had a bad habit of getting lost."
The team was silent. Sure they had heard about Peter talking about his Uncle Ben, but this was the first time the had heard him mention anything about his parents other than the fact that they had died in a plane crash. As a whole, the group had thought that Peter had no memories of his parents. It suddenly made them realize that despite how close he was with his aunt, and his late uncle, there was still the matter that he knew his parents. He remembered them.
It was Peter's laugh that drew them from their thoughts. They looked back on the small screen and saw Ben Parker and May approach, dressed as a goblin and witch.
The camera was handed off to May and a new woman appeared. She walked up next to Peter's dad and Peter, revealing her to be dressed as a black cat.
"Anything you want to say before we turn the camera off Peter?"
"I just wanna get candy."
Everyone on the video laughed, as well as Peter and May in real life.
Well... Who else thinks little Peter knowing the elements song by Tom Lehrer would be adorable?
Although this took on a far sadder tone than I intended.
