Eden walked down the street away from the Koneko humming Cornflake Girl. Yohji had won this battle, but she planned on winning the war. It didn't help her pride any that she wasn't able to check out her new home because the key was still in the living room though. She might have wanted to win, but not so much as to interrupt them. Whatever they were really doing.
Her mind slowly shifted to more important matters. Problems with Rot were growing at a frightening pace. She was beginning to feel like a double agent, having to feed Aya and Weiss information about Rot and Rot information about Weiss. All she had to do was prevent the wrong information from falling in the wrong hands, and as the tap that controls the flow, it should be easy.
But how long would her shields hold out against Gwen? The other woman was already stressing Eden's protection close to its limit, and after that, anything she saw, the telepath would as well.
"Glad to see you think so highly of me." Eden lowered her eyes, groaning as the voice spoke out loud rather then in her head for the first time in weeks.
"Gwen."
"Mirage." Gwen appeared at Eden's side and the two continued to walk down the street.
"Do you want something?"
"No."
They casually made their way across the street and entered a restaurant. Gwen continued to say nothing, and Eden felt no pressure against her shields. The worry of her shields being broken must have just slipped.
Aya and Chelsea. Weiss and Rot. Everything was too much. She wasn't sure how to deal with everything.
"Do you ever wish things would just go back to being the four of us against Licht?"
"No."
"You're still as silent as ever," Eden grumbled. "It's a simple question, and I don't see how you can't want it back the way it was. It was a lot less complicated."
"Things are complicated for you right now, not for me. Not even for Moria, as she seems to have chosen her side. You are the one who can't make up her mind." Gwen continued to read the menu, never once looking up at Eden.
"Rot is to be Weiss's next assignment, unless I can give them information proving we are no longer a threat."
"Us, not we."
"Huh?"
"You will try to prove that Sylvia and I are no longer threats. Without you and Moira. You let that little bit slip too, Eden." Gwen placed her menu down on the table. "You may want to watch your behavior Eden. And your thoughts. For now, Sylvia does not seem to mind your indecision. But you never know how long that will last." She looked back at the menu, and then stood up. "None of the food here appeals to me. Enjoy your lunch Eden."
She watched as Gwen walked out of the restaurant. The waitress came over to the table and asked if she wanted something to drink, but Eden ignored her.
If she continued to play both sides, it would eventually come back and bite her on the butt, yet she couldn't see herself choosing one or the other just yet. For now, she would play with Yohji for Aya and bridge the teams.
"Miss?" She looked up and noticed the waitress for the first time. The young woman had a worried look on her face. Eden suddenly turned on her with the smile of a cat eyeing her pray. It only widened as the girl's cheeks reddened and she fumbled for her ticket book. Chel was at work, and Aya and Yohji were keeping each other company…
Most of this was written in English class while trying to pay just enough attention to my teacher to not get in trouble. Eden doesn't like seriousness, if you may have noticed. Guess that's why I like playing her. I do the same things she does.
