"James, I need to talk to you." Lily said as she came around the corner into the bedroom, still wearing the outfit from the part that evening. James was lying on the bed with the covers tangled around his feet. When he saw her, he sat up.
"I didn't do it. Whatever it was. It wasn't me." He said quickly.
"Shut up you moron, you didn't do anything," She said as she slipped out of her shimmery red dress and climbed into the bed, pulling the blankets up around her pale form.
"What is it then?" James asked, his voice a mix of confusion and anticipation. Lily shuffled closer to him and grabbed his hand. Her heart pounded, and her mouth was dry.
"James, I-" She started, and took a deep breath in. "James. You're going to be a father." She breathed. She watched his face as he digested what she had just said. Behind his eyes she could see hundreds of emotions flashing through his mind. He didn't speak.
"You aren't angry, are you? We're so young and the war and everything..." She trailed off. He looked at her, and a slow smile spread across his face. She jumped when he opened his mouth and spoke, in a loud excited voice.
"Angry? Angry? Lily, how could I be angry? I'm ecstatic! A father! I'm going to be a father! And you-" he sat up and wrapped her in a massive bear hug "you're going to be the most wonderful mother in the world! She's going to be the happiest little girl!" He pulled away and looked at Lily. She could seen a sheen of tears in his eyes.
"How do you know she'll be a girl?" Lily asked, smiling.
"I just know! And she'll look just like her beautiful mother." He said, beaming as he leaned in to kiss her. Then he leaped up and stood on the bed, looking down at her. Lily giggled.
"What are you doing?" She laughed
"I've got to tell Sirius!" He shouted excitedly, jumping off the bed and galloping to the door. Before he left he turned back and looked at her and laughed again.
"Angry? Bloody hell Evans, I've been waiting for this day since we met!"
