The Prompt: What Made You Say That by country artist Shania Twain
Supervisory Special Agent in charge Aaron Hotchner looked at his subordinate Supervisory Special Agent Emily Prentiss and said "You know Emily you look very pretty in what you are wearing."
Emily's mouth dropped open as she looked at Aaron. She could not believe that she had just heard what she did come out of his mouth. She knew of all people that Aaron was never one to give compliments like that especially to a co-worker or a subordinate. However she could not say that she was not pleased that he thought she looked pretty in the black slacks and the light blue shirt she was wearing.
She shook her head to clear her thoughts and then looked at Aaron. "What made you say that Aaron? Not that I mind you saying that I am just curious as to why you decided to tell me that I looked pretty."
Aaron smiled at the rambling that Emily was doing. He thought that it was nice that he was able to fluster her. It was then that he decided to finally tell her how he felt. He looked around the plane and saw that everyone was asleep so he took one of Emily's hands in his own. He rubbed his thumb over the back of her hand and smiled slightly when he heard her intake of breath.
"I decided to tell you that I thought you looked pretty because in all honestly Emily you always look pretty to me. I cannot tell you when I started seeing you as more than a co-worker, my subordinate, or even a friend it just happened. I love you Emily and I think I always have. I was just too blind and stupid to say or do anything with the love I feel for you." Aaron finally said. He looked in Emily's eyes as he gave her his confession. He was hoping with everything inside of him that Emily would not reject him. He was not sure how he would handle it if she did.
Emily's heart stopped beating and then resumed but faster as she let Aaron's words sink into her head. "I love you too Aaron. Like you I am not sure when liking turned into love but it has and I am glad. I have been thinking about telling you for a while now but I had yet to make up my mind on whether I was going to tell you or not until now. I am glad that you told me how you felt Aaron because it gave me the courage to tell you how I felt."
Aaron smiled at Emily and then leaned over in his seat and brushed his lips lightly across Emily's lips. His life was now complete and he could not be any happier than he was in this second in this moment.
