"Lindsay!" Danny called through the smoke. He didn't pay any attention to the others taking control of the scene. All he cared about was if Lindsay was alright.

"Danny!" He heard her call his name. He ran toward her voice and the second he saw her he embraced her tightly.

"You all right?" Danny asked. He felt her nod against his chest and he hoped that she couldn't feel his heart beating a million miles per hour.

"Danny, get her outside and checked on," Stella said after struggling with one of the suspects. Danny nodded and led a shaken Lindsay outside, his hand tightly holding hers.

Outside, Danny tried to get out of the way of the EMT's, but Lindsay wouldn't let his hand go. Lindsay was quiet and shaking. As the paramedic checked her out, Danny rubbed his thumb across the back of Lindsay's hand comfortingly.

"She'll be fine. You're just in shock Ms. Monroe, go home and get some rest. Okay?" Lindsay nodded and the paramedic walked away.

"I'll drive you home, Montana," Danny said. Lindsay shook her head.

"I don't want to go home," she whispered. "It's too quiet there…"

"Then you'll come home with me, either way, you're doing what the doc said and getting' some rest," Lindsay nodded and Danny led her away from the chaos.

"You thirsty?" Danny asked. Lindsay nodded and Danny led her to the living room, then headed to the kitchen. He returned with a blanket along with the two bottles of water. He sat next to her on the couch, wrapped the blanket around the two of them, and handed her a bottle of water. Lindsay placed the water on the table slowly and then suddenly wrapped her arms around his next, burying her face in Danny's shoulder. Danny held her tight as she cried into his shoulder.

"I was so scared Danny," she whispered. "So scared…"

"It's okay Lindsay," Danny whispered in an even softer voice. "It's all over, you're fine now…"

"All I could think…" Lindsay sat back a bit, her eyes closed. "When he pointed that gun at me was that this was it…it was over. All that was on my mind is that…" she sniffed and wiped her eyes. "…is that I would never see you again, Danny." She finally looked into his eyes.

"Lindsay," Danny sighed. "When he made you, I don't think Clark Kent himself could have run faster to that apartment than I did." He cupped Lindsay's face in his hand and brushed his thumb across her cheek. "I couldn't stand the thought of loosing you…"

The two just sat therein that position for the better part of a half hour before Lindsay and Danny moved closer to each other at the same time. When they kissed, it felt almost natural, like they had been kissing each other all their lives. When they broke apart, both were smiling.

"Lindsay, I won't let anything happen to you," Danny said, kissing her forehead.

"I know Danny," She leaned her head on his chest. "I've always known."
