Slowly he walked back into her living room. After he'd needed all his strength to convince her to take some rest, she'd finally given in. Now she was – hopefully – asleep in the next room. And he tried to order the pictures, notes and everything else that's been spread across the dinner table. Olivia's laptop - still open - annoyed him after a while with its flickering monitor. So he closed it abruptly. He sighed and rubbed his eyes. He wanted to find some rest himself, wanted to drive over to his place, but he wasn't ready to leave her, yet. He actually wanted to take care of her. His own needs weren't that important right now.
Then his eyes fell suddenly upon the picture of Olivia and Charlie. Peter took it in his hands and stared at it for a long time. He sat down and sighed.
Charlie. He'd been the first casualty of an upcoming war, they'd actually known. A war they knew nothing about, against an enemy they knew nothing about. As far as they knew, anyone could've already been some shapeshifting soldier from the alternate universe and they wouldn't even notice – not until it would've been too late.
And it had already been nearly too late for Olivia. The pain he felt in his chest right now was almost unbearable. There had been just one time before he'd ever felt this way. It was when they'd brought Olivia in after she'd come back from wherever she'd been. He could've already lost her back then. And he was more than thankful he hadn't.
"No," he suddenly heard Olivia screaming. "Charlie!"
Peter rushed into her bedroom, seeing her tossing and turning in her sleep. There was no time to be embarrassed. There was also actually no need to. He'd seen her before. Not that he'd ever been in her bedroom before – well technically. He'd been there a few moments ago, of course, but before that – never.
"Olivia," he whispered, while heading over to her bed. He finally knelt beside her and grabbed her softly. "Olivia," he whispered again, trying to wake her up.
"No," she cried. "No... Charlie." And suddenly she started to fight him. He tried to get a hold of her hands, but didn't want to hurt her in any way. "Livia," he called finally out loud. And then she awoke with a start.
"Peter," she gasped, after she'd finally realized where she was. He grabbed softly her head and stroked some hair out of her face. "Hey," he whispered.
"Oh Peter," she whispered, while she got caught in his embrace.
"It's okay," he assured her.
She grabbed his arm. "Don't leave," she whispered. Peter stroked her head and held her close.
"Don't worry," he whispered. "I'm here. I won't go anywhere."
She nodded. "Thanks," came from her, her voice barely more than a whisper.
His lips brushed softly her forehead. "I don't know how long it'll take Liv, but..." He stopped and sighed. "... You're gonna be fine."
I know it's short, but if you liked it please review - I love comments. :) Thank you!
