This little idea came to me after re-watching season 1 ep 6. Uther only seemed really scared after the beatle was put down next to him...

Elephants are scared of mice; That's a fact

But what are dragons scared of? Specifically Pendragons and especially a man called Uther Pendragon.

"Ambrosius!" the king bellowed for his servant

"Yes sire?" the man was respectful as always

"See that spiders web up there... I want it gone by the time I return, completely gone" with that the king marched out. Ambrosius cursed himself for forgetting to dust above the bed, the king hated dust and muck in his chambers.

Uther strolled down the corridors, whistling merrily when no-one was about. Autumn had already started arriving; bringing with it the coloured leaves that delighted stupid village children. But at least the prince had no such stupid thoughts. The prince, what kind of father was he? Prince Arthur Uther Tristan Pendragon, Heir to the Throne of Camelot. On impulse he wandered up a corridor past the schooling room and listened at the door

"Your Father decreed that sorcery be banned in the 5th summer of his reign, shortly after your birth..." Geoffrey was lecturing on Royal History.

"Why did he ban it?" the shrill question tried to interrupt but was ignored

"Your father came from an ancient lineage who have split into many branches, so many that most traces have vanished from record. That will be all for this morning"

"What about Mother? Where did she come from?"

Uther heard Geoffrey's calm reply "I am not qualified to teach that Sir, I only arrived after your mother was gone. There is no mention of her in any records I have access to" Uther breathed out quickly and fled, he had no desire to come across the boy when he had been denied something.

Arthur wandered alone across the courtyard, Old Ector had hurt his back which meant that for the afternoon he was free.

"Psst" he turned to see a serving boy beckoning "Wanna see something sire?" Arthur nodded eagerly and was led to musty part of the stables where leaves had gathered into a dirty nest. The boy pulled off a wood cover in triumph "Cockroaches"

Arthur didn't flinch as the horrible insect climbed up his arm, he was thinking hard "I have an idea"

"I don't doubt it sire" the servant was trying to be respectful

Arthur grinned maliciously "Lets put one in every castle bedroom"

"Every bedroom?"

"Except Gaius's" for once the prince showed some humanity.

Dusk began to fall when the young boy ran from Gaius to the man standing by the statue

"Father"

"Arthur" Uther's voice was soft and he didn't notice the glint in his son's eye "You should go to bed, I won't have my prince wearing himself out"

Arthur complied but listened with delight as various members of the household began to squeal in horror.

What shocked him was the bellow of horror from the corridor below.

Gaius heard the King yell as he crossed the courtyard, quickly doubling back to see what was amiss.

"HELP!!!!!"

He opened the door to see Uther balanced on the table with his sword aiming at a beetle that crawled on the floor. As Gaius watched it shifted and Uther jumped further along the table.

Finally his brain connected and he slammed a plate down on the cockroach

"Thank you Gaius" the king's face was white as he climbed down "You tell no-one about this; understood"

The physician nodded "your Entomophobia is safe with me... that's fear of insects to you Uther"

Elephants are scared of mice

Uther Pendragon is scared of beetles.

Hope you enjoyed that.
