Three times DCSF and the police showed up at the door of their motel room. While he was taken downtown for questioning – the boys spent the night in emergency foster care.
Three times John was released for lack of evidence and told not to leave town. Not that he would have, even if he could. Where do you go when your life burns down around you and you realize everything you thought you knew about reality was a lie?
Three times John walked into the group home where the boys had been sent, to find the familiar scene of Dean sitting with his back to a wall, gripping his baby brother tightly in his arms, glaring at anyone or anything that came within a 12 foot radius.
Three times John took the boys back to the motel where they were staying and put his crying children to bed, before locking himself in the bathroom to cry into a bottle.
The fourth time DCSF and the police showed up at the door of their motel room the Winchesters were long gone.
AN: The repetition of 3's came when I was writing "As the Legend Goes" but it ended up on the editing room floor because it didn't match the over all theme and was veering into wanting its own story. It was my intention to expand this idea into a long Dean POV (I still might), but sadly the real world requires I work to pay the wifi bill (and all the other bills)… so this will have to do for now.
