Author's Note: I was rereading the Poseidon match in the manga and I saw this panel on page 7 of chapter 115 where Deimon is lighting the fireworks Komusubi won at the Sumo contest. This is just a one-shot that takes place before Taki manages to light the really big firework.

Summary: Don't take doing things at face value, even something as simple as lighting fireworks can have its own significance.

Disclaimer: I don't own Eyeshield 21 or any of its characters.

Rating: K+ because things are lit on fire.

Fireworks

By: Bar-Ohki

Komusubi was handing out fireworks to the rest of his teammates. He had won so many, the young lineman had no idea what to do with them. Every member gladly took what they liked from his large verity.

Hiruma only took sparklers, much to the surprise of everyone present. The quarterback sat down on the steps of the high school and lit one of the sparklers. He watched the golden sparks fly out, making a soft contrast with the dark ground. Everyone else watched the golden light flicker off Hiruma's face, making the demonic teen look human and vulnerable.

With a small sputter of white sparks, the sparkler went out throwing everyone into darkness. Hiruma quietly lit another sparkler and instead of watching the simple firework, he watched his teammates.

"Need a light?" Hiruma held the sparkler out, offering a source of fire for anyone who needed it. Juumonji was slightly hesitant at first, but he walked over and lit his fountain off Hiruma's sparkler. Everyone watched as the fountain began to shoot reds, purples, and greens into the air. It was a loud fountain, full of quick bursts of crackling white sparks.

Kuroki and Togano quickly got their Roman Candles lit by Hiruma and pointed them at one another. Everyone laughed at the resulting antics. Sena had Hiruma light a few of his smaller, mousy fireworks. Kurita had Hiruma light his pagoda and even Mamori let Hiruma light her sparkler.

Hiruma was their source of fire that night. It shouldn't have surprised anyone, Hiruma was always their source of fire, whether it be in matches, in school, or just lighting fireworks. He wasn't a man who needed a flashy firework to describe himself, his fireworks were everyone's fireworks because they were all apart of the same flame.
