Dean slows the Impala. Cas opens the door and slides in the front seat. He closes the door and buckles his seat belt.
"Where's Sam?" Cas asks, intrigued.
"Out hunting," Dean answers. Cas and Dean sit in silence in the Impala while Dean drives. Tired of the silence, Dean turns on the radio and Carry On my Wayward Son by Kansas comes on. "Classic," Dean mutters to himself gleefully as he plays his air guitar and air drums to the music.
"Uh, Dean?" Cas asks, breaking Dean out of his jam. "What's this?" Cas cocks his head to the side and points to the Samulet prop on the Impala's rear view mirror.
"That was a prop in the high school musical production of our lives. Heh - they did a rendition of this song for the finale, actually," Dean answered looking at it. "They called it the Samulet because it is the amulet Sam gave to me - the one that you tried to use to find God."
"The one you threw away?"
"Yes... I kept this one because the kids reminded me what the amulet stood for..." Cas squinted at Dean until he explained further. "Which is the connection we feel with each other. Our brotherly bond that keeps us throwing ourselfs at death for the other one." Dean explains with a sigh.
Cas cocks his head to the side as he slowly reaches into his trench coat pocket. He lifts his fist and opens it to reveal the Samulet. "I took it out of the trash after you threw it away in case you ever wanted it again. Or if it ever grew hot." Cas handed the Samulet to Dean who had abruptly stopped the car. He held it for a few seconds before securing it around his neck.
"Thanks Cas... This- this is exactly what I need."
"Just, let me know if it ever burns hot." Cas replies.
"Will do." Dean took out his phone and was going to call Sam, but turned his phone off and continued driving, thinking Nah, I want to see Sammy's face when he sees me wearing the am- Samulet again.
