Warning: slight shonen-ai, if you look at it that way.

Disclaimer: I don't own Prince of Tennis, as you well know

A quick little drabble that popped into my head when reading Chapter 215 online.

As always, please review, rate, and critique!

Enjoy! :)

I could not let Sanada-fukobuchou hit Yanagi-san. I could not.

Perhaps it was because I was angry. Sanada had hit me when I had lost, hit me hard, and I wanted him to hurt. I knew that the racket would hurt his hand; it was just restrung and Sanada always hit with all his strength, perhaps to make up for our lack of strength. No, that was petty. Sanada hit us hard because it was what we deserved, no more and no less.

Perhaps it was because Yanagi-san did not deserve it. He had tried as hard as he could; I could see that, Sanada could see that, all of us could see that, for all that we could hardly believe our eyes when Yanagi-san lost. No, he did not deserve it.

And perhaps – just perhaps – no. Nothing.

The Law of Rikkai is absolute. You do not lose. And Yanagi-san lost. Perhaps he did deserve to be punished, but – we were not machines. The difference between Rikkaidai and robots is our morality. Our values and our belief of what is right and what is wrong and our flexibility, our ability to adapt to any situation because the situation demanded it.

I believe that Yanagi-san did not deserve to be punished.

And I could not let him be punished.
