Chapter 1: How I fell in love with my best friend
Looking in the mirror, I checked myself once more before I was to be introduced. Ugh, I looked hideous! I stood there, in a gigantic frilly ball gown, laced with bows and pearls. The finest jewels were worn around my neck and in my hair. But hey, this is what its like being a candy cane princess in Candy Land.
Smiling, my father took my hand. "Smile kitten," he whispered, "this is your 20th birthday ball, after all"
After that, I couldn't resist. He called me that name ever since I was a baby, and it gave me comfort in the most troubling times. I took my little sisters hand as we headed into the castle hallway, waiting to be introduced.
"Introducing, The royal Cane family. King Cane, and his two daughters, Anna and Candace!" Declared the royal butler, as he bowed.
All eyes were on us now, gasps and awes filled the room, making me blush. We made our way down the stairways, and were suddenly greeted by a sea of guests. Girls of the same age bombarded me with questions of fashion and such. Uncomfortable, I somehow wiggled my way out, to a familiar face awaiting me by the refreshment. Standing there, looking absolutely perfect, was my best friend, Jason. His stunning blue eyes looked into my own brown, as he took my hand and spun me onto the dance floor. He looked at me with those eyes again. Oh, those eyes are the brightest blue you have ever seen! I couldn't help myself but stare into them, mesmerized.
His chuckling brought my senses back as he whispered into my ear, "you look so beautiful tonight." His whisper sent tingles down my spine and a blush to my cheeks. Suddenly, I became aware of where we are. Somehow, during my hypnosis he has danced me into the garden. I broke away, and we walked near the edge of the lake.
"Anna," he said, running his hand through his blond-ish brown-ish hair "I have a confession to make, you see, ever since we became friends when we were five, I have had a fancy for you, your rebellious tom boyish side, your caring side, I fell in love with all of it!" He pulled something out of his pocket, and got down onto his knee.
Holy crap! I thought to myself, is he going to do what I think he's going to do?!
"Anna, My best friend," oh god here it comes, " W-w-will you Marry me?"
My mind began racing. I have been waiting for this moment my whole life! Fanaticizing, hoping, and the day has finally come!
All I could whisper was one word…. "Yes."
