I don't mean to fixate on Lindsay and Danny's separation while she was in Bozeman, but this plot bunny leapt into my head wouldn't leave. As my favourite TV mathematician once said, "I have to work on what's in my head, and right now, this is what's in my head.". This has no connection to my other story, "I Wish".
My thanks go out to A.Boleyn, who encouraged me to 'follow the bunnies'. And of course, many thanks to my wonderful beta, messermonroe, who took time out of his busy schedule to read this over for me. I Love Ya, Babe!! Any mistakes are mine alone.
Ah, the "Disclaimer": I don't own anything in relation to CSI:NY. But if I did, Danny'd be coming home with me; to hell with my husband! ;)

NEW YORK
Danny sat on the bench in Central Park, huddled in his jacket, but not really noticing the cool night air. His mind was focused elsewhere; specifically on her. He couldn't get Lindsay out of his mind, no matter how hard he tried.
He looked up, trying to see the stars, but the multitude of city lights did a very good job of drowning them out. The sky seemed to be void but a few shone through, mirroring his own feelings. It seemed as if there was nothing there, but if you tried hard enough, you could see something.
Unable to sit any longer, he got up, walking along the path as he headed deeper into Central Park. He shook his head, amazed at his confusion; he wasn't known for long-term relationships. He was a player, always moving from one girl to the next. Now he found that he wanted to commit himself to one, to her. His arms ached to hold her; she exhilarated him with her take-no-guff attitude and she could give as well as she could take. He longed to kiss her and feel complete, with her in his arms.
From the moment they met at the zoo, he knew there was something special about her, and come hell or high water, he would make her realize how much he cared for her, how much he wanted them to be together.
Coming to a stop, Danny looked up to they sky once again. The stars were more plentiful here as if everything was clearer, coming into focus. At that point, Danny knew what he had to do. He wouldn't take no for an answer.
BOZEMAN
Lindsay sat on the porch swing at her family's ranch, wrapped in a blanket against the cool breeze that was blowing. It was her favourite place to collect her thoughts, and to just escape it all. Foremost on her mind was Danny, which wasn't exactly a newsflash; he was all she could think about lately.
She looked out over the fields, and being this far from the city, her view of the night sky was glorious. The sky was covered with stars, shining like diamonds, or as Danny would say, "Allotropes of the element carbon". She smiled at the memory, so long ago; it seemed like a lifetime.
She had been so determined to do her job when she arrived in the big city, to make a place for herself in the department that she didn't even realize that she was falling for the handsome New Yorker. It had been right there, in front of her nose the whole time. She noticed the 'accidental' way his body brushed against hers in the lab; unable to deny the fact that a thrill shot through her body every time they touched. She saw such passion in his eyes every time he looked at her, passion like she had never seen before.
Everything had such clarity in the open fields, her thoughts being no different. She knew when she saw him again, it was time to come clean. She had to tell him she was ready, if he was still willing. As clear as the Big Dipper in tonight's sky, she knew she was meant to be with him.
