"All was well."
Lily typed the last few words of her story, sighing in satisfaction. The door to her office clicked open behind her and she reached up, intertwining her husband's fingers with hers.
"Are you done?" he asked
"Yeah, James, I think I am."
"You should really get that published, you know," he said
She rolled her eyes in exasperation. "Again with the getting this published! It's just a story for Harry."
"I'm sure Sev will want to read it."
She grinned at that. "He'll probably get a kick out of being the bad guy that's actually good."
"Sirius'll be pissed you killed him off though."
"Remus will comfort him. I gave Remus the short end of the stick there."
"You really did."
Lily stood up, stretching like a cat. "I'm off to bed. G'night James."
He kissed her softly. "G'night."
"You coming?"
He waved her off. "In a minute. I need a drink."
She nodded and walked out of the room, popping joints as she went. When he heard the bedroom door close, James pulled out a flash drive, sat down in the chair, and turned on the computer in one fluid motion.
"C'mon, c'mon," he murmured to the laptop as it slowly booted up.
Opening up the 3000 page document, he loaded it onto the flash drive. As soon as it was done, he disconnected the drive and pocketed it.
"I'll have to call Malfoy Publishing in the morning. I'm sure Lucius can pull some strings for me." he muttered to himself.
"James! You coming?" Lily called down the hall.
"Yeah!" he called back, "Just a second!"
Ten Years Later:
Lily cracked open the last book in the series she had written for her son so long ago. Harry was seventeen now, completely in love with his boyfriend, and ready to start the rest of his life.
On the inside cover of the book was a simple message.
"Lils,
I told you so!
Love, James"
Lily had to smile at that. Sure, she had been pissed when she discovered James had sent it to Lucius without her permission, or even changing the names. The Malfoys had taken being the bad guys with a decent sense of humor, thankfully enough. Now, though, she had James to thank for the journey that had swept their whole family up, along with most of the world.
She looked out at the crowd, the dedicated fans who had paid to hear her read this book, who had dressed up in Hogwarts robes and drawn scars on their foreheads. She smiled at them, they were a part of her family now, and would be until there was no one around to remember that there had been anyone, let alone remember her books.
Lily checked to make sure the water pitcher was there, she was going to need it. She took a deep breath and began to read. "The two men appeared out of nowhere, a few yards apart in the narrow, moonlit lane..."
