Heartbeat

Disclaimer: I don't own yugioh

Sometimes, it really unnerved her; her heartbeat. It quickened again, a throbbing beat that reverberated in the walls of her chest. But she couldn't help it; the flicker of hope that came every time his form could be seen walking her way then brushing past her, giving her heart a tingle of pain.

"You're wasting your time and mine!" She could imagine him silently tossing her the implication whenever their eyes shortly met.

They had met this night again at the library, the third time in seven days. Then she just couldn't hold it back any longer. How? A note neatly folded and stuck in the clip of his pen cap. Colour had been drained from his face; his eyes widened before narrowing again.

There, she did it! It was over and already she felt like a huge weight had been lifted off her shoulders but he still stood there staring blankly at her. She bit her lip nervously whilst closing her eyes.

He frowned as though struck in his face.

Desperately avoiding eye contact whilst studying the Shakespeare with an exaggerated interest, she recognized his steps getting nearer. Her breath got stuck in her throbbing throat as she recited prayers to God.

She had expected sarcasm, maybe one of his vicious tirades that came out from his bottomless supplies of smart comebacks but none came. That man already hated her; why not give him a genuine leverage.

She glanced up at him, warm hazel met cold blue and …he snorted: "Because you're as dumb as him."

Her face reddened. She was about to explain when he slammed the note on the book she held causing the Shakespeare to fall on the floor. She stooped hastily to pick it up and was unnerved to see it had opened to Romeo and Juliet.

Her heart skipped another beat.
