Okay, so feel free to ask any questions after reading this, and I'll do my best to explain without spoiling.
Now, as you know, in Sacrifice, I make number able mentions about Kur not necessarily being a monster, but a hero of sorts, and I have Zak's conflicting dreams and visions about destruction.
Let me say this.
Kur is not a hero.
Kur is not completely a monster.
The idea I'm going for is that when the Cryptids kept to themselves, Kur was an incredibly powerful ruler - a deity, of sorts - but wasn't completely in power. He had a few close to him who kept order, while he doled out destruction. He was like rain and fire; rooting out the old or vile ways and creatures, so new ones could grow in their place.
And then the humans came along.
Immediately Kur didn't like them - he wanted to keep separate, even more so than the animal kingdom (because Cryptids are their own class of sorts; animal like with intelligence.) But, since he can't completely control all Cryptids, they made their own choice.
And, as majority of humanity sucks, it was a bad choice.
Something happened that I'm too lazy to make up, and Kur became extremely anti-human, one could say. That's why in human legend, he's a "monstrous beast of destruction."
WHY?
Why did I choose this route? Because in the show, there appears to be underlying conflicting view on Kur.
Kur is stated as not being able to completely take over a Cryptids will, (Ulraj mentions something to Zak in The Underground Bride) and that seems to base on intelligence of Cryptids (as in the complexity of their cognitive thinking.)
In Cryptid Vs. Cryptid, Zak couldn't control his powers at all and had to help, because it hurt him. Now I know Zak himself is a sweet kid, but that seems to partially stem from his Kur instincts. (Maybe that's why Kur has a bad rep with humanity? Because he felt Cryptids pain and lashed out?)
Now, onto other matters:
In The Claw Of Tsul'Kalu, we keep seeing Tsul'Kalu's dark vision of Zak. From what I'm getting, is that towards the end of Kur's life (last thousand years or so) he probably was a monster, who only wanted to destroy and kill. That seems to be in most living Cryptids' minds, and that's why Tsul'Kalu fears that outcome, and Rani Naga wants it.
So in my fic, Kur was sort of just this top powerful guy, a force of nature in a sense, who hated humanity and let his instincts control him, turning him into this awful creature.
He is not a hero.
He is a little bit of a monster.
That's why the cave carvings in Awaken Part 2 and 3 have them happy to see Kur rather than afraid.
I will definitely get more into that in the next four-parter arc, which is an attempt at light-hearted, fun(ny), a little trippy, wit important information type of chapter. You'll see.
THINGS DIFFERENT FROM SHOW AND MY FIC:
Obviously Zak still has his powers, he's older and more mature (I think I made him a little too series so I'll try to tone that down). Also, Cryptids are wayyyyyy less known. More hidden.
Zak's conflict/internal turmoil is mostly from the fact that he is a creature based half on reasoning and half on instinct, which is very confusing for him.
Feel free to leave questions in a review, and I'll answer directly and/or make another page of this!
*I'm working on Ascent Part 3 I swear.*
