--As Death Approaches-
Haldir was the March warden of Lothlorien and he had no problem slashing and cutting at the on coming orcs. It was nearly overwhelming for him but it was nothing he could handle. Haldir slashed at a nearby orc as he heard a shout coming from Aragorn, telling him that they were to retreat to the keep. Haldir shouted to his fellow elves in elvish, to retreat.
Haldir paused to look around to make sure the elves were retreating and out of nowhere came an orc, who managed to slash him in the arm. Haldir looked at the wound uncomprehendingly. The chaos around him seemed to slow down and the noise seemed muted. He slashed the orc who had wounded him with his sword.
Out of nowhere as he attacked the never-ending stream of orcs, an orc slashed him from behind. The world started to spin slowly and he heard a voice from afar, "Haldir!!"
It was Aragorn; Haldir sensed that he had seen what had just occurred. As Haldir started to loose strength, he started to loose his balance. As he fell he saw the devastation around him. Orcs and elves lay dead, mutilated by the battle. Haldir felt hope leave his heart. He could hear the muted sounds of the battle around him; he was beginning to believe that this was an unwinable battle. Haldir had now fallen to his knees and was now beginning to lose consciousness. He knew he was dieing but had some hope left in his heart. That bit of hope was praying for a miracle so that his death would not have been in vain.
Haldir felt Aragorn come closer and closer to him, orcs being slaughtered along the way. Haldir was now feeling very weak and with his last moment, he felt Aragorn catch him. With his eyes still open, Haldir faded from life as the battle around them roared on.
