I stood in the middle of the room shaking. My twin sister's grip on my arm loosened as Edward pulled her into him. I took my eyes of the three vampires sitting at the head of the room to turn and glare at him. He was a coward. Edward had left my sister, broken her heart to the point of near death. I had watched her torture for the months they were gone. Had been the one to heal her, with the help of Jacob Black, when she finally decided to move on. And now we were here, on the very precipice of death because he was a coward. Now it was up to Bella to save him, and by default, up to me to save her. I turned back to the three red-eyed vampires and shivered as one gave me a sadistic smile.
"Ah, this must be the lovely Bella Swan. Edward has told us so much about you dear. I just had to understand why such a gifted vampire would come to me begging for death and now I see." The dark haired one spoke.
I saw Bella flinch at the mention of death and tried to keep the anger from my face. Edward had no right to put us in this position, especially after the pain and damage he had caused. He turned towards me with a growl as he read my thoughts and I turned to meet his glare.
"You don't scare me, Edward. You never have and you know everything I have thought is true. You don't deserve my sister's love but for some reason she chooses to give it to you." I spit between my teeth.
The dark-haired vampire chuckled as Alice placed herself between Edward and me. I had told the truth. I did not fear Edward. In fact, my only fear at the moment was for my sister.
"He will kill you." Alice said.
Edward turned to her and I watched as he acknowledged whatever vision it was that she was having. He glared in my direction one last time before turning back to the other vampires in the room. I followed his example as I came to the realization that someone would have to pay for his choice. If I had learned anything from the previous encounters with a red-eyed vampire, it was that there was always a price to be paid when dealing in this world. I came to the decision then, that I would give my life if it meant Bella would live.
But to understand how two 18-year-old human girls ended up in a room with the most powerful vampires in the world, I have to start at the beginning.
