Legolas sat, knees tucked under his chin, in one of the Mirkwood trees. He rocked himself in an effort to match the beating of his aching heart. He had never felt pain quite like this and could not see a way out of it.

'The only way out is through.' Aragorn used to tell him. Aragorn. How he ached to see him just one last time. He closed his eyes tightly and let himself be taken away by thoughts of days passed.

Legolas opened his eyes as he felt a droplet of water splash down on his cheek. He looked to the sky, but there was no rain. He tasted the droplet. Salty. His brow furrowed as another splashed down upon his pale cheek. Tears? Ah, yes, he remembered how Aragorn told him of suffering and crying. But the Prince of Mirkwood couldn't be crying. Splash. Or could he?

His heart grew heavier as the droplets came frequently and at a faster rate. Legolas wiped furiously at his eyes to make them go away. He began to get scared. What if the tears never stopped? He certainly couldn't go on like this forever.

Legolas leapt down from the tree, landing on two sturdy feet. He walked, trying to cover his face with his long hair.

'I must go to Galadriel...I must seek her counsel.' He thought to himself.

He walked at a quicker pace as he approached the stables. He got on his horse and urged it to go as fast as possible. Legolas rode hard and long, never stoping, fearing that if he did the pain would consume his all too sensitive heart.

As he approached Lorien he hopped off of his horse and walked swiftly through the wooded area, for he knew his way all too well.

"Legolas, what brings you here with no notice?"

"Celeborn, I much desire to speak with Galadriel. I apologize for lack of further notice of my coming."

"What do you want with my counsel, Legolas Greenleaf?" Galadriel approached from behind him, startling him.

"I need to find some cure, something to make this all go away."

"Pain and suffering are the consequences of loving a mortal. Why do you think I could make this stop?"

"I know of your powers Galadriel. Please, just help me. Something. Anything..." He fell to his knees.

Galadriel bent, placing her finger underneath his chin, she whispered an ancient form of elvish.

Legolas began to get groggy and light headed, "I think I should lie down."

"You know where you may rest." Celeborn said as Legolas walked down the stairs.

He reached the forest floor and collapsed with fatigue. He quickly fell asleep and was taken away to a time with no pain. A time filled with happiness and a time that contained the being that he most desired to see. Aragorn.

"Something is changing." Galadriel said, "I can feel it."

Celeborn sighed, "Yes. Elfstone is being reborn."
