This happens when Bella is still human of course, since vampires can't sleep, and this story is about a dream that Bella had when she was sleeping.

B.P.O.V
The few hours when I didn't see Edward was unbearable. Every minute that passed, I got more excited, and I would start bouncing around. I felt very stupid, so I decided to sleep it off, though I would probably have nightmares.
I took a nap, though I didn't need one. After a while, I fell asleep, and accompanying my nap was a dream instead of a nightmare, surprisingly.
In my dream, I dreamt that I was throwing the worst birthday party ever! The party was in a drained swimming pool, and the cake was beautiful! And suddenly, it rained and the swimming pool filled up but everybody was still at the bottom of the pool eating, dancing and stuff and the cake was like waterproof since it didn't get washed away and the fire on the cake didn't get put out, even though there was so much water! At the end of the party, more people left than they came!
When I woke up, Edward was already sitting on the edge of my bed. I had to tell someone about my dream, so I described everything that happened in my dream to him. After my story was over, I asked," Ridiculous, huh?" Edward just smiled.

"Extremely ridiculous." I replied her. In my mind, I was thinking," My girlfriend is nuts, my girlfriend is nuts, my girlfriend is nuts… Thank god that she can't read my mind…" and I just smiled at her.
