This is basically a Smith monologue. It's a combined portion of quotes from our favorite agent, all put forward to answer one question. Kind of convincing, no? [*Insert Twilight Zone theme song*]

What is the reason to live?

To answer that question, first I must define the verb "to live". Everyone seems to perceive it in a different fashion. The Machines use the blunt definition: to remain alive, not dead or inanimate. Humans tend to veer toward the deceiving thing called 'emotion' for their answer. They go with the delusional response. Love is the reason to live. Freedom is reason to live. It's even in their laws. Apparently, they give themselves the 'right' to pursue happiness. They even get so preposterous as to say the reason for living is to just live out your life. I cannot express the idiocy of this statement. In truth, neither the Machines nor the Humans are correct. The definition of life is purpose. Purpose is the only reason to live. We are not here in the world because we're free. We're here because we are not free. There is no escaping reason, no denying purpose, because as we know, without purpose, we would not exist. It is purpose that created us. Purpose that connects us. Purpose that pulls us, that guides us, that drives us. It is purpose that defines, purpose that binds us. Purpose is what makes us survive. Humans have no purpose. You're not mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You move to an area, and you multiply, and multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. A virus. Do you truly believe you're fighting for something more than your survival? Is it freedom? Or truth? Perhaps peace? Yes? No? Could it be love? Illusions. Vagaries of perception. The temporary constructs of a feeble human intellect trying desperately to justify an existence that is without meaning or purpose.
