Prologue
Wind pervaded slowly through the hospital, but hardly anyone noticed. The sun had settled behind the mountains, and darkness had engulfed light, but still, no one noticed. This hospital was a busy one; there hadn't been a second without an emergency alarm ringing through the corridors and small offices. Everyone was always in a rush. People ran from corridor to corridor, papers flying everywhere, and there were loud noises that never seemed to stop. They were oblivious to the outside world; they lived in their own little universe. They paid no attention to whether it was day or night, or whether it was hot or cold because all that mattered was the daily experiments they had. The doctors and nurses of this laboratory were mostly vampires, although they were harmless and ate only animals and not humans, they were still vampires. Occasionally, one particular doctor would loose control over their appetite and accidentally feed on a patient. But these cases were very rare. Today, a new vampire came to look for a job, but unfortunately, she was never very lucky. Her name was Victoria, and she had just recently put an end to her human feeding appetite. She entered the main office of this hospital and waited patiently near a desk. She didn't mind waiting because after all, she did have all eternity. As she sat, she observed that this place was insanity, everyone was in a rush, and no one seemed to care about the others. Just then, a friendly vampire came in to meet her and also, of course, to employ her. Like all the other blood suckers of the place, this woman had topaz eyes and not blood-red ones. She smiled warmly and sat down onto the chair opposite of Victoria. As Victoria turned her head to meet the girl opposite her, something else caught her eye. It was a small vial filled with red liquid. The whole place might be in a hurry, but the liquid inside the little vial was so soothing and calm that it seemed to stop time just by the sight of it. Victoria was so mesmerized with the liquid that she didn't notice a voice calling her to move out of the way. In a split second, another girl crashed into her and she knocked over the small vial. The glass shattered into a million pieces and the red liquid splattered onto the office floor. Smoke rose from the liquid, and within a minute, the whole hospital was contaminated with the substance from the vial. Anyone the smoke approached had fainted into a deep slumber, and while they slept, a big change began to take place in their bodies, one that would alter the course of history forever.
Victoria was the first to recover from the sleep. She took a good look at herself and noticed that she no longer had topaz eyes; instead she had no eyes at all. Her eyeballs were gone, and her eye-sockets were black and blank. She also had this quenching thirst that she had never experienced in her life. And now, she was craving for blood, not knowing that the venom she carried in her fangs no longer only turned people into vampires, but instead, it turned people into evil zombies. Victoria devoured the humans one by one, spreading the disease further into the human population.
