Chapter 1
My sister Bella and I moved from Phoenix to Forks after our mother Renée remarried. Phil was kind to my sister and not as harsh as my mother to me, but Bella decided they deserved some privacy. I was told we had made the decision.
When we reached Forks my father picked us up at the airport in his police car. I ignored them for the most part. Bella was the perfect one and I was just the other child no one wanted. I was constantly reminded of the fact by both Renee and Bella that only Bella was wanted.
"ARIA!" I finally heard through my musings. I looked to my father who was glaring at me in the rearview mirror. "Will you ever pay attention? Bella always pays attention."
I caught Bell's smug smile in the side mirror. Charlies chastising caused my face to feel hot, yet I maintained my stoic outwardly appearance.
"Sorry Dad," I said quietly. My father just snorted at my apology and turned back to Bella.
"So Bella how's school?"
"Great!" she blabbed on and on about how great school was, how she loved it. "Aria barely manages a D average," she blurted out. I narrowed my eyes at her. She looked contrite on the outside but my sister was a huge actress – she knew how to play the game and play it well she did.
I gasped at her blatant lies. Bella was such a liar. She stole my work and made me do it for her whenever I didn't have it done. By then I had no time to properly do my own homework or study for my tests.
"In my ouse you will study for all your classes. I expect at least a high C for your next report card."
"But Dad between chores and . . ."
"She parties so much. Why do you think we had to force her here from Phoenix?" Bella smirked at me.
I was fuming. Bella partied. I never did, because I didn't have the time.
"Well I don't know how your mother ran things in Phoenix, but rest assured you will not be partying while under my roof," Charlie barked. "You should really try to follow Bella's example."
Yes, I should, because Bella was such a role model. I was seething silently in the backseat of the police cruiser. By the time we reached our new home, I was so angry I was on the verge of tears.
"Bella your room is the same. Aria I changed your room into my study. I moved your stugg into the attic." He so graciously informed me.
"Thanks dad!" Bella smiled so brightly. Her teeth were pure white against her tan skin.
"Thank you," I forced a smile.
"Bella and Aria I have a surprise for each of you," Charlie said before we could go into our respective rooms.
I was shocked. But then scared. The last time I had a 'surprise' Bella locked me in the narrow closet in our foyer for three days.
"Go put your tings in your rooms first," I began the trek up the two flights of stairs to my attic room. I set my bags down in dismay once I opened the door to take in my new room.
Everything was dusty and it smelled of mold in the room. I felt sick immediately. I crossed the floor to the window, which I was able to leave open for the majority of the day.
I went back down the stairs where Dad, Bella and two Indian looking guys were waiting.
"Bella I got you the truck," Dad said after about ten minutes of them talking and my silence. She squealed as she looked at her 2000 cherry red Chevy S10.
"Aria I got you the motorcycle." It was . . .old. Rusty orange in color but it at least worked.
"Thanks ," I managed. That night wasn't so bad, even if I wanted to puke from the way my sister was flirting with Jacob . . .Black. He had to be at least two years younger than us roughly. But whatever, I was hooked by my bike. Bella could have burned down Forks and I wouldn't have cared unless my bike was damaged.
