Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto.

Author's note: this was not originally a Naruto-fic, but it seemed to fit a warped Naruto-verse.

Smoke rises from the charred ruins. The bleached bones of the prey lay strewn across the heaps of rubble and decay. Above it all is a weather balloon. It is colorful and striped like a rainbow zebra. Too bad the rainbow zebra were equally extinct as the former inhabitants of the wreckage. Peering from the large metal basket under the balloon is a set of wild orange eyes. An insane laughter echoes through the area from the balloon's lone inhabitant. "I did it. I did it!" he howls with delight. "I did it!" In the center of what used to be a town is a large black canister. The burn marks surrounding each of the holes in its sides give away its use. "They said I couldn't do it," the young man rambles happily. "But I showed them! They know now what genius I am. Nobody could make a weapon like that!"

Flashback:

From high above the city, the young man announces with the wind whipping through his shaggy blonde hair, "Citizens, I present to you: my invention! It can clear the plains of any enemies that cross your path!" Mocking laughter drafts up on the winds to his ears.

"Crazy Naruto and his useless inventions," one comment said.

"No wonder everybody hates him. He's all words and no show."

"I'll show you," he whispers down to them. "I will show you all!" He pulls the lever and the thick black canister drops from the bottom of his balloon. It impacts the ground in the center of town.

"Hey!" a citizen shouts at him angrily. "Watch where you drop your things! You could've hurt somebody!" Naruto gazes down with cold eyes as the canister sides all slide open.

"I call it…Napalm," he replies just loud enough for himself to hear. People begin to gather around it curiously when suddenly a woman with bright pink hair notices it.

"This thing has a fire in it! It's some kind of machine! Naruto, you idiot! Come down here and—"

The last words were swallowed up in the ocean of fire that blanketed the city. The flames poured through the streets and into the houses like a torrent of rushing water. Screams and cries of agony go up to his waiting ears as his invention slays all of his enemies. All those who ever did him wrong…going up in smoke. His retribution and glory burn their mark into the very foundations of his home.

End Flashback:

"Nobody will mock my inventions ever again," he laughs. "I am a true inventor! A genius!" In his ears, the crackling of ember below and the smoke of his former village form an applause to rival even the most vocal of audiences. Every sound praises his deed, and in the madness setting in over the young man, he does not notice the flames below flickering up…and catching his own balloon on fire. He does not notice as his balloon explodes. Nor when he is free falling towards the smoking ruins, metal shards and burning material flying past. The grin on his face never fades. Not even when the earth comes up to greet him for the last time. His genius was proven. That was what mattered.
