The wind fluttered through my hair, sending it whirling into a dizzying flurry of dark snowflakes, mixing with the steadily increase of falling whiteness around us. The air was cold, nipping at our rosy faces and clawing underneath our loose fitting clothing, but that didn't matter anymore. I studied his face closely, admiring every smooth fold of skin around his eyes, the sweet way his lip pouted to a point just slightly off centre, and it had become an eye drawer for me. I called his name through the breeze, the word sounded fresh and sweet upon my lips, reminding me of citrus. His eyes locked onto mine, their cool blueness shifting the expression of my face, the one that I could only use when looking at him. He answered my calling, his lips moving systematically in the coldness, now tinted slightly with a hue of purple. His expression was sad, baleful, his mouth drawn into a slight frown that only made him more beautiful in my sight. He placed his hand upon mine, clutching it to his chest as if a small diamond lay there. I began to hum quietly, enjoying the solace of being alone with him, all the while freezing flakes of snow cascaded around us settling onto the coats we wore.
'There's nothing you can do that can't be done,' My voice echoed around the hills, catching and slipping sweetly into our cold ears, but only to be mirrored by a lower more masculine voice.
'There's nothing you can sing that can't be sung,' He replied, his tone soft and longing, as if he truly believed in what he was saying,
'It's easy…' We voiced in unison, our breath forming small clouds of steam in the cool air.
'All you need is love,' A sweet sugary voice whispered behind us, causing me to step away from Russell in alarm, his face changed immediately from sad longing to worry, catching my eye in his and asking with his dark eyes if I was alright. I gulped and turned, realising that there was no one behind us; I sat upon the white snow, the substance trickling into my fur boots and through the thin lining of my coat.
'Kyla,' He sounded, crouching in the snow next to me, uncaring of the wetness that was seeping through his trousers. 'Look at me,' I obliged to his deep voice, staring obsessively into his serene face. He placed his forehead upon mine, realising the latest batch of shock that had passed through me, sweeping it away with his kind and gentle laugh. I would be fine, as long as he were with me. He pulled my arm up from my side and cradled it against his chest again, revelling in the warmth and sweetness that radiated from it. 'There is no one here but us.' He pulled me closer, warming my soul and heart keeping un-wishful thinking at bay, yet protecting us from harm. 'Remember that.' I nodded in reply, though this gesture was slightly muffled by his short brown locks, I buried my head deeper into their soft and meaningless surface, smiling at the time he had tried to pull it into an afro.
'We can never be together,' I sniffed, hugging the warmth and sadness that beamed from us, catching it upon the tip of my tongue and swallowing regretfully.
'I know,' He replied, placing his remaining arm around my snow encased back, and we crouched together in the cool snow, forehead upon forehead. 'But that will never stop us,' Even though I could not glimpse his pale face, I knew that he was grinning. The sadness rolled away, leaving behind two heart-warmed faces in the darkness of the night.
