"Meghan!" Whined her closest mortal friend. She was great (she didn't question all the demigod stuff much), but Indi couldn't handle being here. She had to leave. She was over this. She needed to remember what a real family is like. Indi needed someone who cared about Indi, the daughter of Poseidon, not someone who wanted Meghan to look perfect.
"Look Mariah, I just have to get away. Percy should be cool with it. I'll talk to him before I go, but I need this reminder that there are real people out there who care!" Indi tells her. She was leaving Kansas. That much was for sure. Indi couldn't handle it. Meghan Indigo "Indi" Walker was over here. The Walkers (she never did fit in with them) only cared about looking the part. Indi wanted to go back to camp where she was cared about in reality.
"Okay, so spend time away, but in Kansas. New York is far away, and you already spend the summer there!" Mariah was insistent, Indi had to give her that much. But here, she didn't fit in. Indi didn't belong. Her siblings loved her. Percy, Dawn and Dust where her life. She had made up her mind, and that wasn't changing.
"Look, Percy lives in New York. Dawn and Dust are in New York. I need to spend time with my real family! Not this made up family where they pretend everything is important!" Indi yells. She slung her duffle bag over her shoulder, grabbed her picture that she brought from camp, and walked out the door. Indi never looked back.
Percy was working on a project with his friend Blaire when the phone rang. Percy paused. Who would be calling him?
"Hello?" He asked answering the phone. It was a pay phone so he didn't know what to think. It wasn't until he heard Indi's voice did things click.
"Percy! I have to get out of here! I've already booked my flight to New York. We get there at eight. Can I stay with?" She asked. "I can't stand it here anymore. I need to be with my real family for a little while."
Percy grinned. He told Indi to be careful and that he'd see her at eight.
"Who was that? The Annabeth that we've heard so much about?" Blaire asked hearing the end of Percy's conversation. Percy told him he was close. It was Indi, his sister. All they needed was The twins, and the whole family would be there.
"HEY MOM?" Percy shouts.
"Percy!" Indi shouted upon seeing Percy in the terminal…standing with the twins!
"Indi!" Percy yells spinning her in a hug. She was where she belonged. So as the four headed to Percy's apartment they were reminded why they did everything they do. Percy, Indi, Dawn, and Dustin were all reminded what a real family was like.
