Aftershock: The Janus Gate
Sulu ran a hand over his newly fixed bullet wound, holding in his wince for Chekov's sake.
Chekov leaned his head on Sulu's shoulder, "Do you zink ve should have told zem? I mean, how vill zey know zat zey're supposed to be togezer?"
Sulu smiled and took his husband's hand, placing a small kiss over the silver band resting on his fourth finger, "How will they /not/ know they're supposed to be together? He can't not fall in love with you. Those beautiful eyes, that shinning smile, those adorable bangs-"
"Or you, viz zose bulging muscles, zose cute dimples, zat charming laugh-"
"And the stars! How couldn't you fall in love with those magnificent stars surrounding you?"
Chekov shook his head and chuckled softly, knowing his husband was right, "You know ve're going to forget zis whole experience in a few minutes."
"As long as I have you," whispered Sulu, wrapping his arm around Chekov's waist, "I don't care..."
Chekov scratched the back of his neck and looked up timidly at Sulu, "So," he began, "ve're fr- going to be friends, da?"
Sulu nodded, "Best friends, apparently."
They both smiled awkwardly, not sure what to do. Did they have to be friends to save the Enterprise in the future, or were they going to become friends either way?
Chekov recalled the two older versions of himself and Sulu. Smiling, chatting, sharing inside jokes.
It would have been so easy. He could have pointed it out earlier, or have blurted it out to Sulu now. But Chekov bit his tongue and decided not to mention the matching silver rings on both the older men's left fourth finger.
Sulu shrugged, as if reading Chekov's thoughts, reassuring him he'd just been seeing things, and walked away, probably to recuperate in his room.
Chekov knew that soon, he, Sulu, Yuki, everyone in the ship would forget the whole thing about... uh.
Chekov tried to remember what he was going to forget, but gave up and stared longingly after some handsome, muscular Asian crewman walking down the hall, feeling as though he knew him.
