Well, I sent this to a beta-reader back in January. And it never came back. So when you review, please keep in mind that this hasn't really been checked over much.
Anyway, this is rated T for light sexual content. If you don't like that, don't read.
Naruto knows that this is a lie.
He and Sakura are rolling around in bed, their bare bodies close, almost touching. She leans forward and kisses him, and he closes his eyes, so that the darkness of the small bedroom is blotted out, and all he can sense is her.
And yet, even though Sakura's lips are soft and tender against his, and even though she is touching him in places he had barely known existed, he knows that this is all a lie.
There is a strange feel to her touch—almost mechanic—and her eyes are hollow and far away. He knows that she is wishing that he were someone else—someone who had drifted out of reach long ago. And he knows that she is dreaming that she were doing these things with that someone else.
Sasuke.
Naruto knows that Sakura is unable to forget about Sasuke. She is plagued by loneliness; a hollow, empty feeling that tortures her soul. And that is the reason she is here with him tonight, trying to make those feelings go away.
They are even closer now, and he knows that it is time.
But as he moves forward to enter her, the thought running through his head comes to the surface, and out of his mouth in the form of words.
"You still love him," he chokes out.
He sees a flicker of raw, unidentified emotion pass through her eyes. Here and then gone. It is the first emotion he has seen there in a long time.
She looks up and meets his eyes, her face betraying nothing.
"I know," she whispers, and kisses him again.
…Yeah.
RRE.
