Title: Pity

Summary: And, in this moment, he felt sorry for her.

Disclaimer: I laugh at you.

Author's Note: This is just something I wrote while watching WWotE. I wondered why the hell Boq reached out to Nessa and let her hold his hands if he was about to crush her soul. I also noticed that Nessa said, "Leaving?" with this happy, 'I'm-not-listening-cause-you're-touching-me' air about her. I was also bored. So, read and review. Thank you!

Nessarose is Michelle Federer

Boq is Christopher Fitzgerald

"I'm talking about my life. The little that's left of it. I'm not free to leave Munchkinland, none of us are. Ever since she took power, she's been stripping the Munchkins of our rights... and we didn't have that many to begin with! And do you know why?"

One click-one sparkling heel-and she was standing before him. Her pale, delicate hands gripped the edge of her dress as she spun in an unstable circle. Nessarose smiled at him as the scissors fell to the floor with an echoing 'plunk.'

"To keep you here, with me. But none of that matters anymore. Look."

She completed her spin with that smile growing wider, and her hands fell to her side. In that moment she shone.

"You did this for her?"

His eyes stayed on Nessa, but his voice carried to Elphaba's ears.

"For both of us."

She smiled wider, and he ran his top teeth along the edges of his lower lip. He reached for her.

"Nessa, this changes everything."

Unstable and unsure, she forced her legs to carry her to him. Nessa caught his fingers in her hands, and she watched in awe as Boq let her stroke his hands.

"I know."

He shivered under her touch.

"Listen, Nessa…"

Her eyes betrayed none of her recent wickedness, but were her innocent, naive eyes from Shiz.

"Mmhhhmmm?"

She was barely listening; completely enthralled be his hands in hers.

"Uh, Nessa, surely now I'll matter less to you and you won't mind my leaving here tonight..."

She barely heard him. That very fact that he was allowing her to hold his hands, touch his skin, and speaking to her without anger or bitterness blocked any thought.

"Leaving?"

Boq faltered. She glanced up once, and he caught her eyes. She was still smiling, still lost in his touch, and he suddenly didn't feel so sure about it.

"Yes, that ball that's being staged announcing Glinda is engaged."

Her fingers stopped sliding across his skin.

"Glinda?"

He watched as her eyes widened.

"Yes, Nessa, that's right. And I've got to go appeal to her. Express the way I feel to her. Oh, Nessa, I lost my heart to Glinda the moment I first saw her. You know that."

She pulled away and turned her back on him. Yet again she was cold and bitter when she spoke. She had known that. She had always known that, but she thought he would she reason-see love! She had loved him! She had adored him! She had remembered his name! She had turned him into everything!

"Lost your heart? Well, we'll see about that…"

And, even in that moment, he felt sorry for her.
