My Friend, My Rival, My Beloved

Naruto sits on his hospital bed, the thin sheets lazily draped across his lap. Bright yellow hair and dazzling blue eyes nearly covered by the many bandages it took to cover his wounds.

The moons light shines through the window bathing the room with its eerie glow. His normally energetic and tanned body appears pale in the darkened room.

His bandaged hands clutch a metal and cloth object dejectedly, almost as if it could have been a lifeline, or deep reminder of something good…yet bad.

An odd shaped leaf and a deep scratch mark adorns this object, a sign of treachery, and broken bonds. Naruto's lightly scarred fingers trace the markings.

'I shall break those bonds Naruto'

Naruto winces at those words, and rubs his eyes with his hand, letting it linger for a moment then it falls back into his lap.

'Did our friendship mean nothing Sasuke?'

The clouds outside overcast the moons light and the room goes black.

'Did our rivalry and insignificant fights make you run off?'

One lone tear falls and stains his bandaged arm with its saltiness.

'What have I done to make you want to go to that evil bastard?'

"Sasuke…"

The clouds drift away and the moon's light shines through again. Naruto's cerulean eyes glow, but not with their usual luster.

'I will fight you as my equal, and break whatever bonds that tie us together.'

Another tear falls, and the blonde leans back and rests his head on the backboard of the bed.

'I should have stopped him, or…gone with him…Sasuke…'

"I…miss you…"

Pain trembles through the ninja, not of his body, but his heart. The worst kind of pain resides in ones heart. The kind of pain that this young ninja is feeling.

The raven-haired boy was his and still is his teammate, his teammate that had betrayed him.

Cerulean eyes are covered by tan eyelids; silent tears glide down his cheeks as he does so. With his eyes closed, deep hurt filled onyx eyes stare back at him.

His eyes reopen with hope that he will see the owners of these eyes staring at him. His hope dies when he meets a darkened room, and continues to shed his tears.

'I chase after you with my love in my heart, and the promise to save you. Then I let Sakura down.'

Tanned fingers brush his paled lips, as if feeling for an old and wanted sensation. No avail for he feels nothing and returns his hand to clutch onto his keepsake.

"I'm sorry…Sasuke…"

'I will get you back.'

A faint memory of warmth dances across his lips.

'You kissed me that night, in the valley of the end. I was barely conscious to notice it…but you did.'

"Why?"

Naruto lifts his hand up ad dangles the item before his eyes. It belonged to his best friend and rival and now…his love.

'I've fell for you…through out the time we were together as teammates…I had no idea you felt the same.'

Confusion pounds into his skull, a bad head ach finding it's way in. His heart ach still throbbing strongly.

Naruto slides down into the covers clutching the headband to his chest, determined to get some rest. He shuts his eyes and once again meets twin onyx eyes.

'I will find you again Sasuke…I will no matter what.'

The moon is overcast by shadows again and the room becomes dark. Naruto falls into a deep slumber and dreams of old memories that he cherished the most.
