Lilac looked up into the sky. The breezie wind seemed to calm her nerves. Today was special. Today was the day she was born. She got up and headed back to the treehouse. There were no sign of Carol and Milla. She didn't think they forgot, but she didn't know what they were doing. She headed to head inside and decided to watch her favorite movie. Then she got the idea to look around the house for anything that looked like a birthday present. She looked through all the closets and checked under the beds. "I was pretty sure they would have gotten me something. It's not like them to forget. Great, now I feel like Carol on the day before her birthday."
Carol and Milla just arrived from Shang Tu. "Do you think Lilac will like what we got her, Carol?" Carol winked back at her. "Trust me, she's been talking about nothing else for a whole day. We just gotta make sure she doesn't see this."
"Carol! Milla!"
Worry struck their faces. "Oh no." Said Milla. "It's Lilac." Carol looked back and forth. "Quick, we gotta hide it."
"But where?"
"Anywhere! Just don't let her see it!"
The two threw the present behind a bush. Lilac found them. Carol was trying to block the bush. "Uh, hey Lilac. What's shaking?"
"Where have you been all day?"
"Oh, you know. Stuff like this, stuff like that. You know the usual."
Carol tried smiling. Lilac turned to Milla. "What have you two been doing today?" Milla thought for a moment. "Looking for... butterflies. Yes, we've been gathering them lately." Lilac looked at her more closely. "Looks like you haven't caught any lately."
Carol chuckled. "We... were heading back to the treehouse to gather nets."
Lilac nodded. "Alright. Well, have fun." She headed off. The two girls sighed. "That was a close one." Said Milla. "Did you think she suspected?"
"Oh, no way. I wouldn't bet on it."
Lilac entered the treehouse, smiling. "They're totally hiding my present."
Later that day, she decided to take a nap. Carol and Milla snuck in through the front door. "Good. She's asleep." Said Carol. "Let's get wrapping."
Minutes later, Lilac woke up. She stretched her arms out, and decided to head to the living room. She flipped on the light.
"Surprise! Happy Birthday, Lilac!"
Lilac smiled at the surprise. "You guys... I knew you didn't forget."
Carol grabbed her hand and directed her to her seat. "Is it like us to?" Lilac shook her head. Milla brought in the cake. "Make a wish and blow out the candles." Lilac closed her eyes for a moment and blew out the candles. The two brought out the present they were hiding.
"From both of us." Said Milla. Lilac opened it up and saw a pair of boots inside the box. "Hey, you got them." Carol nodded, proud of herself. "Yep. And the best part, they were on sale."
"Girls, this has been an awesome birthday. Thank you both." The two girls ran up to her and hugged her. This truly was a great day for her.
