Pssssshhhhh…..

The sounds of the oxygen leaving her tank caused Shepard to gasp for air and struggle to find the opening. But no matter how much she struggled, she couldn't get a hold of the busted line in order to try and seal it. After several seconds, she gave up and just kind of floated, listening to her shallow breathing and the whistling noise that was slowly starting to diminish. The sounds of her ship, the Normandy, slowly exploding and coming apart was kind of calming. It seemed fitting that the captain would go down with the ship; she just wished that it didn't have to be this way.

'So this is what is like to die…'

"Shepard did are you and Joker safe?"

The sound of Kaidan's voice brought her back to reality; she didn't know that the comms were still working.

She cleared her throat, "Joker's safe." She replied, trying to sound like she wasn't out of breath.

"And what about you…" The sound of panic in his voice brought tears to her eyes.

"Kaidan…I…I didn't make it into the escape pod in time. I got…blasted out into space." It was getting harder to breath now. She probably had only a few minutes left. The tears that were threatening to spill over finally did with his next couple of words.

"But that's ok right…we'll come and get you…" He sounded desperate, which made her love him even more.

"Kaidan…I'm not going to make it…I'm so, so sorry."

"What do you mean?" his voice cracked. She could hear him starting to lose his cool.

"You know what I mean Kaidan. I only have minutes…maybe seconds left of air." She sobbed into the comm. "I want you to know…" Shepard started only to be interrupted by Kaidan.

"No Shepard don't…don't do this to me."

"Kaidan shut up for a second." She half sobbed half laughed into the comm. "I need you to know you were the best damn thing that happened to me…and I…I love you."

"Shepard…I love you too." His voice was thick with tears, which made her cry even more.

Her oxygen tank beeped at her signaling that time was running out. Her life slowly flashed before her eyes. The edges of her vision were slowly fading, and she was gasping for air. She whished that she could shut off the comms now, she didn't want him to have to hear her gasping for air. There was a sob on the other line which made her try even harder to find the damn button.

"Kaidan…don't cry…" It was getting harder to talk now. Her gasping for air was now impossible to try and hide now, and she had long given up on trying to find the mute button.

"Shepard don't leave me." His words were of a desperate man, and man, she wished she could be there to comfort him. Dying sucked.

"I'm so sorry Kaidan…good…bye…" she managed to whisper. The last thing she heard before the darkness completely engulfed her was Kaidan yelling her name.

'I'm so, so sorry…'
