The Man Who Killed the Gods
A SAO Fan Fiction

Authors note:

Hello and thank you for reading another Shistorm2016 Fan Fiction! As an avid gamer, SAO was both a very interesting anime as well as a very frustrating one. I have invested thousands of hours into FPS games, RPGs, and other various online Multiplayer games. A lot of what SAO showed struck me as odd. Nobody was hacking, there weren't any players lagging or glitching out, and nobody in GGO was using an Aimbot. Seriously? Not even one hacker? Seems legit. Anyways; I figured that it would be fun to write a story showing off some of the glaring flaws with the anime/novels of SAO.

A word of warning: if you are easily butt hurt, this will likely rustle your jimmies. You are reading this of your own free will; I am not responsible for any consequences of this. I am however gladly accepting any and all hate mail. Kindly leave all death threats, rants, and DDOS related comments in the Reviews.

Thanks for reading; enjoy the story!

Chapter 1

Nathan was as hardcore as you could be. He lived, ate, slept, and breathed all for games. SAO was the only thing on his mind as he sat in his AP Networking and Systems Engineering course. Sure, this was his dream job he was training for; but that game was sitting on his desk, waiting for him. It called out across town for him to play it. Come home, fuck classes, I am your world now. It was almost unbearable, but the minute the teacher dismissed the class, he was out the door and on his Yamaha in seconds.

It took only five and a half minutes to reach his apartment. Seventy four second later he was at his desk, game in hand. Nathan popped open the case and slid the disc into the tray. He reached down to the drawer next to his desk and pulled out the VR headset. It was a far cry from the VR tech of his youth. He sighed as he put it on, those were the days; rumors about Half Life 3, the failure of the Steam OS, and Nintendo fucking up yet another E3. Goddamn that was a great time to be alive. He sat back in his seat. He'd ordered the chair custom made. Mesh seating with a reclining back for comfort with built in speakers on the sides and a cup holder on each arm. Every single piece of tech in his room was customized to the max. His multi-monitor PC setup had six terabytes of space, two of the best graphics cards on the market, an SSD, a dedicated computer for server hosting, as well as an Ethernet connection to allow for a stable connection that would never drop out on him.

This was his life, and he was living it to the fullest. He could hear the fan on the computer whirring gently as the system booted up. He'd gotten the headset custom made too. The visor could be slid freely up and down to allow for mid game breaks for food. The Shell was custom made too, a slate grey with red trim and glowing red biohazard symbol on the right side. Nathan had always felt that the gear should look just as good as the games did, so he was willing to drop a few hundred bucks to make things look cool, even if it served no function other than aesthetics.

He shifted to get comfortable. He closed his eyes and drew in a deep breath, "SYSTEM GO!" He said. It was another mild tweak he'd done. The system hummed as it turned itself on.

"Here we go…" Nathan thought to himself as his vision shifted into the virtual world.
