Hey! I don't really know what this is. Haha. I just noticed two things that Snow said in that last episode and I just wanted to write something short around them.
Alas, I do not own OUAT.
"After everything your father and I have been through, there's one thing we've learned: it is never too late."
Life was unpredictable. Life was cruel. One minute everything is going the way you want it to, the way you hoped it would; the next it's turning everything you've ever known upside-down and inside-out.
Snow and Charming's life together had been everything but smooth. Separated time and time again, spread across different realms, their faith in love and their faith in each other had defeated the obstacles, defied the odds and brought them closer together. Not even a most powerful curse to which she was sentenced to all eternity in a cold slumber could vanquish the belief that they would be together again.
It is never too late.
It had become almost a motto by which they lived by. Never give up. Give everything and you will succeed. Good will always defeat evil.
And it had served them well.
That is, up until this point.
It was as if Snow's life was merely an endless cascade of events culminating to this very moment. Somehow in all her imaginings of conversations she and Emma would share as mother and daughter, this didn't fall in line. Her daughter - her pride and joy, her love, her life - spilling over with emotion, grappling with her own sense of identity, her own sense of self-worth, unable to accept the love she was so willing to lavish upon her.
Emma's walls had truly given way, the tumult of her life experience pouring out of her in a wave of agony and heartache. Trying to hold it all back was futile; her voice cracking, her breaths shaky, her tears riding down the side of her face were just the tip of a very large iceberg. Her little girl, her baby, was broken. Truly and thoroughly broken.
She grew up as an orphan.
Alone.
Bruised.
Heartbroken.
And it was her fault.
And all those other times when Snow was sure her heart would cave in on itself proved meaningless when compared to the sheer ache that consumed her whole being at that point.
She was devastated.
Beyond hope, beyond belief.
Just shattered.
Oh how she yearned to find the words to take the pain way; longed to find an action that would erase the past.
But looking at her precious Emma and looking at how the despair blazed ferociously in her eyes, Snow realized something: sometimes belief and faith and all that stuff wasn't enough. Sometimes there were things that were just out of her control.
Sometimes, not matter how much you trick yourself in believing it, there was nothing you can do to fix what's been broken.
And so as they sat on that hollow log, the tears streaming down their faces, the night air heavy with the emotion, Snow uttered words she never thought she'd ever say.
"But it was too late."
I'd love to hear what you thought. I'm curious - I'm not too fond of it haha. Anyway, most importantly, I hope you enjoyed it :)
