The Mirror Is Broken
Disclaimer: If the lawyers aren't looking, I own it.
Misa was freaking out again. She was in the bathroom trying to put makeup on when she started crying again. The eye shadow fell into the sink and smashed. Her knees buckled and she fell to the floor sobbing.
Gelus frowned. He hated to see her so miserable. He had been watching her for a long time and it had been so hard not to fall in love with her. He had fallen for her long before the incident with her family. She was a very beautiful human and had been so high-spirited before the death of her parents. But the wounds were still fresh and moving on seemed impossible; it had only been a few months since they had died and Misa was still struggling to pick herself up. She had about an hour to get to the audition, but it was apparent that she wouldn't be going now.
That dreadful night Gelus had been watching over her, like her guardian angel (although it seemed kind of ridiculous to think of a God of Death as a guardian angel). Her life was in no danger of ending, since he could see her lifespan, but he had held his Death Note tightly in his hands anyway.
Misa slowly got to her feet. The eyeliner had not been waterproof and was now smeared all over her face. She hugged herself as she trembled. "I should be dead," she whispered, staring at her own reflecting.
Gelus frowned and mumbled, "No."
"I should be dead!" she cried and drove her fist into the mirror. The mirror broke. Pieces of it fell into the sink. Misa ended up cutting her knuckles. She fell down to the floor, cradling her hand against her body. She lay on the floor like a broken doll, sobbing.
Gelus couldn't understand Misa's pain. He had never lost anyone. But he loved her and he would watch over her until the end – of his life, not hers.
