Honeysuckle. Jasmine.
Inuyasha's nose went on full alert at the scent, indicating the miko had finally returned from her time. Keh. It took her long enough. Over a week had passed since she'd stepped into the well and already he could feel his nerves on high alert. He didn't like to wait for the bad guys to come sneak up on him. No, he'd much rather prefer doing the exact opposite.
Though Miroku thought it had a lot to do with Kagome's absence that caused him to be irritable more then anything.
Leaping down from his position on one of the huts in the village and quickly ran into a sprint toward the well. His nose twitched when he picked up the distinct smell of youkai. Not at all strong compared to him, he still felt a twist in his stomach that its scent mingled with Kagome's.
She might be in danger.
Speeding his steps, he nearly flew head first into a youkai about the size of a tree with eyes that were glazed with red. Kagome was busily notching another arrow as she hid behind the well's structure and fired at the grizzly thing's head. It screeched when the arrowhead pierced through its eye socket and started to back step, tripping over its own feet. Immediately, Kagome already prepared shot once more, this time in the creature's gut. It tumbled as the sounds of gurgling its own blood filled the forest before it finally fell to its death on the ground.
Inuyasha blinked at the scene before him.
Standing up from her crouch, Kagome wiped the perspiration from her forehead before sighing in relief. "It never fails. The minute I come back, I'm right back to fighting in my brand new uniform." She noted the way the hanyou was looking at her and frowned. "What? Is something the matter?"
He fidgeted. "You didn't need me."
Wow. The way he said it, it was almost like he'd been thrown into a dog pound. "Of course I did...I knew that I was safe once you showed up."
Ignoring her, he crossed his arms and glared. "That was reckless."
It was Kagome's turn to be irritated. "Should I have just let him kill me then? Maybe make me into Kagome soup. Or wait! Maybe he could have ran away with me his unwilling bride. Is that better?"
Already she could hear the grumble of his growl as his claws dug into his fire rat. "No. That is not alright."
"Good. Then get over it."
Before he could retort back, she quickly picked up her belongings which she had tossed in a hurry to reach her bow and headed for the village. "By the way," she called over her shoulder, "he wasn't all that strong anyway."
The hanyou waited until he knew she wasn't watching before he turned to the youkai carcass and kicked it, for good measure. Then headed off after the little spit fiery woman who maimed a demon even Miroku, a powerful monk, would have trouble with and smiled.
