Disclaimer: I own all the angst spilling out of my fingertips. Prince of Tennis? Nope!
Author's Note: A short dedication to all the depressing female characters in the series.
Ryuuzaki Sakuno
It was the day after Tezuka buchou lost to Atobe-sama that Sakuno finally summoned all her courage to make things clear. But the words barely left her lips when the freshmen shook his head and walked away. The pigtailed girl gave chase.
She could barely believe her eyes. Not that she was surprised by his blatant rejection. Inui-senpai had told her that there was 97.3 that the prodigy will not reciprocate her feelings the way she desired. But Tomo-chan had convinced her to try anyway.
"Wait, Ryoma-kun," she was grateful that he had the decency to stop and face her.
"Why?"
Embarrassed, he pulled his cap lower, ignoring her question. And after a tense bout of silence, he looked her in the eye. "You will find somebody else better than me."
"And if you will excuse me, I made a promise with buchou," and with that, he left.
'But I don't want somebody else, Ryoma-kun. Why can't you see?'
Sakuno didn't chase after him like she always did. This time, she fell to her knees and watched, teary-eyed as one person she gave her heart to grow more distant.
It took a while but when the ugly truth finally sank in, she wiped away her tears silently. And with renewed fury, she vowed to herself.
'I will never love another the way I loved you.'
P.S. If you must, there's some sort of Tezuka x Echizen in this drabble. But I think Ryoma is only capable of loving tennis and Karupin. What do you think? Cheers (:
