Sirius ran outside, closed his eyes and apparated.

As he opened his eyes the scene had changed. His heart fell to the pit of his stomach as he looked upon the damaged house in front of him.

"JAMES! LILY!" He ran towards the front door, his hand resting on the doorknob, scared of what he would find once inside. He hadn't had time to prepare for the worst. He sighed, twisted the knob and pushed the door open. His breath caught in his throat as his knees gave away.

"Prongs…" On the ground before him lay James Potter, unmoving. Sirius moved closer and checked for any sign of life even though he knew it was too late.

"James…" He grabbed the body and hugged his no longer living best friend as he cried out in agony. It was all gone, all the happy times, the pranks, the life of life itself. He caught a glimpse of James's wand lying on the table in the living room.

"Idiot! Moron!" he began, yelling at the un-responding body. "Your wand should be in your hand! How many times have Lily scolded you for that and still you-" Sirius froze. Lily…Turning his head quickly and looking up the staircase he thought of her blazing, warm smile. He stood up and ran up the stairs.

"Lily! Lily?!" He flung several doors open but did not find her. The last room left was the bedroom, whose door stood ajar. He walked calmly towards it and as his eyes found her he collapsed onto the floor, his body too weak to handle the sight.

"Lily…LilyLilyLily…" She looked so peaceful, almost sleeping, like James.

Sirius slammed his fists on the floor as he screamed out in pain. It was not supposed to happen this way. They were meant to live a long and happy life together! He screamed again, this time out of anger. Their house was protected…Peter was the Secret Keeper…he was to blame. The lust for revenge filled his body and soul as his vision got blurred with tears. He looked up as he felt something small and soft on his hand.

"Harry…I'm so sorry." He picked up the little baby, now marked with a scar on his forehead, and held him in his arms as he let silent tears run down his cheeks. This was not a time to think about revenge yet, this was a time for letting go of the pain he felt deep within his heart and to protect Harry. The war had taken the two best people in his life from him…and Peter was to blame. Or was it Sirius's fault? Bitter remorse hit Sirius hard in the chest.

"Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth." He mumbled. Sirius knew that he had made his decision when his eyes fell on James's body mere minutes ago. He got up from the floor and placed Harry safely in his small bed, someone would come for him soon. Sirius Black had to take care of a filthy, lying rat.

"I'm sorry Harry…I'll see you soon, I promise." He kissed the baby's forehead and Harry smiled up at his Godfather retreating from the room, not knowing that soon meant 12 long years…
