Summary: If Sasuke Uchiha read a book about himself, he would cringe and hate himself for every decision he made. He had many regrets in life. It was only natural he'd want to change that. So he does, albeit in a rather unorthodox way. After all, being reborn as Kakashi Hatake has its ups and downs. But this time, he wasn't going to take anything for granted.
Prologue:
Sasuke Uchiha found himself walking down a tunnel of darkness. Not that he knew how he got there or how long said tunnel was, but he felt compelled to continue his journey since it was, well, the only thing he could do. Of course, when he first came to consciousness in the strange tunnel- although he doesn't remember when or where or how or…wait how long had he been walking?- he had attempted to apply the appropriate amount of chakra to help him manifest his sharingan and dispel whatever genjutsu he was possibly trapped in. Only to realise that he had no chakra at all. It just wasn't there, which was an alarming compromise. He panicked. Not that he was ever going to tell anyone that. Sasuke Uchiha doesn't panic. He just… loses momentary control of his thought process and breathes a bit quicker than what is considered normal.
Moving onto the present- or past? What time is it? How long had he been here?- the young Uchiha continued to walk. And walk. And walk. And walk. Suddenly he was falling. The darkness engulfed him and he began to lose focus on the seams of reality he was stretching and getting squashed and- he closed his eyes.
When he opened them, he was greeted by bright lights and blurry figures. He blinked some more in an effort to clear his vision and promote clarity, only for the result to disappoint him greatly. His vision was still blurry. And another downside: he couldn't move his limbs properly. He couldn't move any of his limbs and there was a blurry giant reaching down to grab him. Feeling utterly helpless and the most vulnerable he has ever felt before he waited for his inevitable end as the giant picked him up.
SLAP!
Air! Freezing cold air rushed into his lungs but it burned and suddenly he could feel and he could hear and… and… why was he crying? No. Why can't he stop crying?
He heard woman's voice. A warmth he had not felt in a long time erupted inside his chest and he cried harder. A soft hum and a heartfelt embrace, he was cocooned in warmth and love and his pitiful wailing soothed into quiet sobs and his hearing cleared up enough for him to hear the woman's whispers.
"…hhh, shhhh. Kaa-san is here. Kaa-san is here to protect you, Kakashi."
A/N: Ehehehe… yeah that just happened. Don't forget to leave a review! I'd love to hear your thoughts so far. Oh yeah, Saigo no Mezame translates as Last Awakening. Hopefully. Google translate has always been a bit dodgy.
