Fairy Tale: Sleeping Beauty
Summary: It was a likeable name, in some ways at least.
Author's Note: THIS IS PRETENDING THAT AURORA HAS THE NICKNAME OF 'BEAUTY'! Also, it's kind of debating which version of herself she wants to be, the free, un-princess-ish one, or the caged princess one. Crepusculum means dusk. R&R?

It was a likeable name, in some ways at least.
She liked it because:
1. It was nice-sounding, and its r's and a's rolled gently off her tongue, rather like a golden ball on a castle lawn. Not that she had actually seen that happen. Her 'friends' had said it was very smooth.
2. It had three syllables, so it sounded whole to her, complete.
3. There was no obvious nickname for it. Not one that could be given to her, anyways. Rory was the only nickname she could think of, and she felt that Rory sounded fitting only as the name of a wild girl. A red-headed, free-spirited, tomboy-ish, follow-her-dreams wild girl. She was none of those things. In fact, she was almost the exact opposite of each one.
4. It was a name that grew with her, or anybody else, for that matter. It fit a child, a teen, a young woman, a middle-aged woman, and an elderly woman. It wasn't like the name 'Rory'. In her opinion, that name only fit a child, and maybe a teen. To call a young woman 'Rory' was pushing it.
5. It wasn't overused. It felt crisp and new every time she said it.

It was a horrid name, in most ways she could think of.
She hated it because:
1. It didn't roll of her tongue like a golden ball on a castle lawn. It felt awkward in her mouth. It almost hurt to say it, as if her tongue was being stabbed while she uttered each syllable. She didn't say it when she could avoid it.
2. It had two syllables. She had always hated names with two syllables. She hated most because they sounded like they were unfinished, incomplete. She hated her nickname because it was incomplete, a shortened version of 'beautiful'. She knew 'beauty' was a word, but she didn't like to think of it as one. She hated 'beauty'. She hated 'beautiful', too.
3. It was a nickname, and it didn't even match her name. If her name had been 'Adeline', she would have been able to live with 'Addie', even though it was only two syllables. At least the essence of the name was still there. All of 'Addie' 's letters were in 'Adeline'. Only two letters of 'Beauty' were in Aurora', and they almost didn't count, because they were both vowels.
4. It didn't grow with her. It didn't grow with anyone. It was too hard for her to picture a child 'Beauty', or a middle-aged one, for that matter. And it was out of the question to have 'Beauty' as a nickname when she was elderly. It would have to be scrapped sometime, and when it was, although she'd be glad, it would also leave a small hole in her heart.
5. The one that was supposed to love her liked it, and used it way too much.
