"I miss you."
She looked down and away from his stare, his wonderfully brown eyes. She couldn't bare it. They were the reason she said yes. She couldn't stand the tears when they'll come out.
Her hands felt cold, though his were over them, protecting them. They caressed hers in the most loving way possible. It didn't help the situation.
"I'm right here," he said, trying to comfort her.
He couldn't comfort her. He didn't know what was wrong. And when he did, he wouldn't know how to comfort himself.
He bored his eyes into the top of her red tangles of hair. The first thing he saw about her. That strands that captivated his brown, beautiful eyes.
She was crying now. He tried to hug her. She rejected.
It wouldn't make her feel better. It'd make her feel guilty. It'd make her feel selfish. It'd make her feel worse.
She used to be so strong. She said she'd never cry. Never over a guy. Her tears, they filled her eyes. Her dead, dead eyes. Where have her eyes gone? They were so beautiful. Joy used to be in them. The sun would dance in her eyes. His reflection was in her green, sparkling eyes. Dead.
"Do you even know what I mean?" she asked, taking her hands and wiping the tears. She refused to meet his stare. She'd never be able to look at them the same way.
"I never do." He gave a chuckle to lighten the mood, as he always could with just a smile. But it was half-hearted. He was known to do things full-heartedly. Where has he gone?
"Where have you gone?" she asked. She knew he wouldn't know how to answer.
Yet he knew the answer. He was thinking it. And he tried ignoring it. But he knew she would want an answer. But he couldn't say anything, knowing she was listening so intently. What he'd say now would matter more than anything else.
A long pause followed. The kind of pause that's filled with tension. The kind that makes every prolonged second last longer than usual. The world stopped. For them it did.
Those seconds lasted into minutes. And those minutes, they choked the air. The only sound their beating hearts. They were the only things that mattered at that moment.
"I love you," she said. "But I miss you. And that's what makes it unbearable. You're right next to me. And I still miss you. "
I'm going through boyfriend troubles, and I needed to write things out.
I haven't written in a year and a half. I might start back up.
If this story interested you, I could make it into a full story, with background information and a fairytale happy ending. And with, you know, actual names. I'd love your opinion.
